Default SART + Tire Selection

Gonna hit the SART ride with 3f bike club this weekend. Currently i have WTB EXI wolf 2.1 tires on the bike right now my other option is Moto raptor 2.24 's Never ridden that trail so i dont know what kind of surface to expect. I like the EXI's but to me they are not an all mountain tire. I know the moto's will get the job done. Open for other suggestions...???

it should be similar to the OC trails, loose in turns and loose over hardpack in other spots. I do not think you guys are doing the post office extra credit, that is really loose from the recent reports i've read.

What kinda bike?

Mebbe put the MutanoRaptor on the front and leave the Exi on the rear.

I'll be riding my Salsa Dos Niner with new wide-azz flat bar and Ergon Pro grips/bar ends. I've got a Rampage in the front and an Ignitor as the rear tire.

I ride SART regularly. You'll be fine with what you have. I run a 2.1 or 2.3 WTB Weirwolf on the front and a 2.1 WTB Velociraptor on the rear and never had any problems with traction.

FYI: I swapped out the Ignitor on the rear of my 29er SS for a Nev.. which I'm running on the front as well. I found I wasn't getting quite the hook up with the Ignitor since it's gotten so dusty. They may be a little bit slower, but boy do I have traction in the loose stuff now... especially run at 18-20 psi. I hear that the Rampage is a little faster than the Nev and you might try running both front and back if you start having traction problems as the summer wears on.

OMR

Panaracers have a softer sidewall......more prone to sidewall tears.

You betcha. I'd let you try it out Saturday but that's right... you're too good for SART!! hahaha! jk

OMR - sweet, thanks for the info! Not sure we have another Rampage laying around, but if I start riding the Dos a bunch again I'll probably get one of those or the Neve.

You should really just get a Neve 2.35 for the front and 2.1 for the rear.

So with 2 legs recovery should be cut in half...

I'm going to use my stock Enduro's that came on the bike and brought a set of Panaracer classics along in case someone thinks I should change them out. They were more in the way of having a spare to take on the trail (just one, as two is heavy).. but who carries spares??

probably noone and i'm trying to be too prepared/overprepared.

Those tires aren't the best rolling out there... May be good if it's get loose. Definitely don't carry a spare tire around. Good to have with you on trips, but not necessary for a ride. If you get a rip you can always stick a food wrapper between the tire and tube to prevent an aneurysm.

Or even something like this:

No, not really.. I just wanted to post that photo

I've never ridden Enduros, so can't really say much about those. Erm, never ridden the Panaraers you mention either

I wouldn't worry about it. If you're used to what you typically use, just keep 'em on there.
