Default What To Bring

Spare chain links
One tire lever just in case
Multi-Tool
Duct Tape
Snake Bite Kit
Mini First Aid Kit
Knife
(prob forgot something)

If the mileage seems high for you then I would suggest bringing some snacks. I bring Clif Shots for energy and Clif Bars for snacks. It shouldnt take us very long to get through this so I dont think you need to worry about packing an entire lunch.
Good list Jordan. A couple things to add...

#1 I would add is some electrolyte replacement drink or mix to ward off cramps. My favorite is Heed made by Hammer but you could use Cytomax, Gatorade, etc. Some people bring 50% water in and 50% Cyto or whatever i n separate containers. I go with 100% Heed because I usually do longer and harder rides and don't want any sign of cramps, especially in the heat. These also serve as fuels to some degree so you don't need to eat solid food, which actually draw blood away from your legs which is not a good thing. The shot blocks are an awesome idea tho!

It's also is smart to freeze a bottle overnight and then start with it frozen solid so about 1 hourinto the ride you'll still have an ice cold beverage.

Also, put ALOT of ice in your Camelbak and it will stay cool the whole ride.

#2 A shimano chain pin if you run a Shimano chain or a SRAM master link if you run a SRAM chain.

I will be riding straight from my house. If you look at that little picture basically I live right by the homes on the right side of the pic. They are just above Oneil Park. I can ride right into the park from there and meet up with everyone inside the park. I think Gene wants everyone to meet in Oneil Park just because its the easiest for everyone to find, you just have to pay a couple bucks for parking. Also, if everyone is parking around the same area then as a group everyone can figure out where to go eat, etc... If people didnt want to pay for parking you can park on the street right behind those houses above Oneil Park. I had some more fun with the map lol. The green snake looking thing is the street you can park on. There are gates off the street to ride into the park. The green arrow is my place.

u could always do what some of the elder STR BUBBS have done in the past!! ADD SOME NICE HEAVY ROCKS TO THE FAST RIDERS's back packS when they're not waching of course and give the slow riders a better chance to make it to the end of the ride!! (but u dint hear this from me Ottayyy)

Didn't ride it today, got off work too late so I slept in. I will try again tomorrow.

Here's the latest:

The route: We will go up the to the street via single track twisty trail. It is a short climb that has switchbacks, not difficult. Ride along the street(sidewalk) till we connect to Tijeras Creek Trail. We will be going in a clockwise direction and end coming out of the trailhead in the park.

I will be in the park near the trailhead at the day use area. Parking is $5.00 on weekends. It's just easier to find the group that way, but you can always park above the O'Neill on the street and ride in.

This ride is only 17 miles with very little climbing( just a few little grunt hills like thse on the Fully Loop). But remember, these are newbs and 17 miles can seem a lot for a newb.

Okay, yeah... 17 miles is a long ride for those not used to it! No issues here. I was for some reason thinking it was gonna be like a 9 mile jaunt and people were suggesting electrolytes and flash lights yknow?

I can't wait to see the photos and read the RR. After suffering all day on my own I'll want to know *someone* had fun!

Understood. I've been getting emails asking what to bring and stuff. Some may think this is an epic ride out in the middle of nowhere, but the reality is we will be riding a rocks throw from civilization. We will be sure to have lots of pics, like on the Beek's ride.

Here's a thought; You guys can come down Trabuco, ride out to O'neill, join us, then I'll give you a ride back to the HJ parking lot(or you can ride in), go back up West Horse Thief and down ITT, That'll be suffering enough with a little fun in between. What cha think?

I usually only think to recommend that to the chicas. Personally, I use the recycled Chipotle napkins. But, I don't use them for post-mountain lion encounters.

Gene, that's a pretty bitchin idea. Running it by Justin.

Anyone have trail directions from Trabuco to O'Neill? Is O'neill the place where VQ/CC had their post race party?

Would just need to know where to meet everyone. And, if someone could hook us up with 2 gallons of water for a refill after this ride, that'd be sweet. I'll bring a fiver for ya.

That's the exact spot. The awards ceremony is there for every event and that's were we will be. We will also have plenty of water and other bevs for you there.

What time do you think you can be down at O'Neil? Gene's ride starts at 8:30... or there abouts.

Sweet. As long as we can fill our bladders with water we'll be good to go.

Thanks for the great idea! Best of both worlds.

Who wants to split a beer??

I'm planning on starting the climb up ITT at 5:30. So, with 3 hours to get up, over, and down, we should have enough time. I think ITT takes at least 1.5hours, and then the traverse across and up the Wall. I think descending Trabuco is about 45mins. I guess I'll have to motor.

Can I get someone's cell # in case we're running a few mins late?

Also, which geoladders directions from those posted are the closest to the ride so I can print them out in case we need to catch up?

Allison, you could also ride up ITT, down Holy Jim (primo condition right now) out to O'Neil, back up Trabuco and DOWN the Wall back to ITT and down. That's a good ride as well.
