If you're planning on hitting the Waterworks Singletrack your route is probably going to look more like this. http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=4571 This route started at Daily's in RSM for a night ride but the mileage will be about right. Only change would probably be we'd be sticking to the bottom of Arroyo Trabuco to cross all the creek crossings (5) and minimize elevation gain. Make sure to hit "Twisty Tire" on the initial climb out of O'Neill. That'll get everyone bitching right from the start. Oh wait - I assumed you are going clockwise. I would hightly recommend clockwise travel on this route. That's the way it's usually done. I'll volunteer to lead any adventurous folks desiring more advanced terrain into "lesser known" singletracks should anyone be up for that. eg. Gilleran Ridge, Chiquita Ridge, Ladera Ridge, etc. KeepsWhatHappens |

We will be going counter clockwise, atleast thats how Gene and I have always done it. I have probably only passed 4 people going against our direction in the past 2 years. That way you are going through the fun stuff on a slight downhill and having fun instead of climbing through it.
Also, when we end back at the top of Oneil Park we can DH the new little singletrack section and make it more fun than climbing it. This ride is afterall going to be packed with a good portion of newer people and people that want to practice going through rocks, water, etc...

Carry 25-32 oz of fluids per hour you expect to out there on the ride.
FYI there are places to fuel up along the way. Water fountains at Canada Vista Park, Sheel Station near RSm Parkway and Plano Trabuco and most importantly is a handy Gatorade vending machine located at the icon on this map. At the Tijeras Creek Golf Course Driving Range. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UT...686a49629b9bc4 It is about 100 yards off the trail on the way back up hill and about 1/4 mile off the trail on the way down...assuming we go clockwise. $2 a bottle. Plus it's better to hit the creeks on the latter part of the ride or people's bike are going to be seizing up. Check the Geoladders log. Several riders say it is much better clockwise. KeepsWhatHappens Last edited by KeepsWhatHappens; 08-22-2007 at 09:07 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

As far as the easy route, we will be going from the trail head into the open space on Arroyo/Trabuco, then turning onto Tijeras Creek and to the trail where Tim crashed, cross Oso to Waterworks and jungle section. |

Don't want to spook anyone and with our large group I'm sure we'll see little wildlife except the lead riders but this was just posted on Geoladders for this route on 8/21 (yesterday).
"MOUNTAIN LION - just saw one, 7:10 p.m., after the big water crossing at the bottom of the loop. I came around a corner, where the sheer drop to the left is, erroded from the creek, and he was only about 100 ft. ahead, yeah, trotting along, and looking back a few times. I whistled loud and he moved a bit quicker. Then off into the bushes. 150lb. would be my guess. Looked pretty healthy." I've seen one in the Jungle last summer. Of course we should all know these cats could be anywhere in these parts even roaming the neighborhoods of Rancho. KeepsWhatHappens http://www.johnearly.com/rides Quote:

The "Jungle" or "Cambodia" is just north of the Tijeras Creek/Arroyo Trabuco Trail Junction. KeepsWhatHappens http://www.johnearly.com/rides Last edited by KeepsWhatHappens; 08-22-2007 at 09:23 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Guys I am going to do this ride with you. I have a question, what would you recommend to bring besides water, small snack, and tube? Since this is a newb ride and look a little more terrain challenge compared to Santiago what else would you guys recommend bringing so everyone is somewhat prepared? Thanks

Water Pump Tubes Co2 Spare chain links One tire lever just in case Multi-Tool Duct Tape Snake Bite Kit Mini First Aid Kit Knife (prob forgot something) If the mileage seems high for you then I would suggest bringing some snacks. I bring Clif Shots for energy and Clif Bars for snacks. It shouldnt take us very long to get through this so I dont think you need to worry about packing an entire lunch.
