Default OC Peeps .....

Hey OC Peeps, I know I have mentioned this to a few of you but who would be interested in carpooling to Noble on Sat.? Unfortunately I don't have a rack for my car but if someone is willing to drive I would gladly buy them lunch, a post ride refreshments (but not too many if you are driving) and/or pitch in some gas money. Anyone interested? Dale, Jeff, Craig, OMR?

Meet at the Junipero Serra carpool parking lot at 6 am on Sat morning and we can figure out who's riding with who...

Default Directions?

I'm trying to make this ride, my first with STR group. What are the directions to the trailhead and what is the start time? I'm coming from Thousand Oaks area and thinking of staying in ElCajon area or something to shorten the Saturday morning drive time. Thanks.

Just click on "Find Trailhead" on the left side of the screen and type in an address.

From socalmtb.com: From San Diego travel east on I 8 about 35 or 40 miles to the Pine Valley Exit. Go north to Old Highway 80 and turn left (west). Travel about one mile and turn right on Pine Creek Rd. Look for and park at the Noble Canyon Trailhead in about 1.5 miles.

The right turn onto Pine Creek Road is SHARP. So, be prepared. It's more like a 60 degree turn than 90. You'll drive past a few houses, a cult, er I mean religious camp... and then off to the right there is a driveway that leads to the parking area.

So far the weather is calling for 85 and sunny in Pine Valley. Areas on the trail will definitely be a little warmer. It may even be nice and cold when we start

For anyone curious... I'm carrying a full Camelbak bladder and one full bottle of Cytomax. Enough food for an army. Arm/elbow pads, and 661 Veggie Knee wraps.

So, if you're curious what to bring... pads aren't a necessity, but I know I'll be attempting Widowmaker, riding down Barney Rubble, attempting Stairway to Hell, etc...

I'm also considering wearing my latest 661 SPD shoes that are better for hiking than my Sidi's

Check for closures as the Cleveland National Forest just went to "EXTREME" Conditions. It may or may not have effect on this ride. But I would call that district office to be sure.

Head south on the 5 past Avery Parkway to Junipero Serra. Take the off ramp and turn left at the bottom... go under the 5 and the carpool parking lot will be on your right hand side. Try and meet there a little before 6 am as the ride down to Noble takes approx 1 1/2 hrs.

See you all there....

I rode this past Sat and saw the Extreme conditions posted. I nearly panic'd when I got off at the Pine Valley exit and saw the OHV on the south side of I-8 closed. Trail conditions are good considering the extended lack of moisture, 2 of 3 streams were dry. Just be prepared for some dust as a group on upper Noble or split up into smaller groups.

Gene, thanks for the heads-up.

Currently the trails are all still open

Hopefully that won't change before this Saturday.
