Default REVISED - STR ride in the IE, 909, 951......you get the idea

EDIT - 8/10 - Please vote again. Poll revised.

After reading about the ride to Beek's, which I should have gone to, I was wondering if there would be interest in a similar type ride more inland, for all of us dirt dwellers. I was thinking something like Sunset Ridge, or Mt. Baldy in late Sept., or early Oct. I would lean more towards Baldy for parking and transportation reasons. Is there interest???

I've never ridden out in those areas, but would be up for it. Too bad you missed the beek's ride. I'll be posting a part 2 "Newbies on the Pain Divide" later in the year.

Not really a trail worth a long drive to, just my opinion though. It's a good trail for new SSers like me to SS.

I think I need Craig or George's intervention here on the poll, need to be able to choose both a location and a month. This is why I stick to bike riding, and not computer stuff.

I have never ridden either one, so I would be up for anything. October would be better for me, but like J_sims, if I am in town I am there.

Default Sunset Ridge

jfromlv,

Great idea!

Sunset Ridge/Mt Lowe is a nice beautiful trail with great history, but for the amount of people(50-75) we had at the Noob Beeks ride, parking would be a biyatch like you said. Sunset Ridge with its exposure and technical areas is definitely not a beginner ride. Maybe an out and back to Alpine Tavern or Inspiration Point would be better, but still parking would be a problem.

My .02

I was actually thinking the Sunset Ridge trail near Mt. Baldy village, but I'm leaning more towards Mt. Baldy anyways, due to parking. I'll try to get this nailed down in the next week or so.

I'll put in a vote for Jared (~ Pakiha ~). He would want October, cause there is a chance he might not be up to handling a hard ride in September. But he'll be fully recovered in October and raring to go on a big group ride. It's killing him missing out on everything right now.

To me Baldy would make the better newbie ride. You can turn around at any time and coast back to the parking lot. Those so inclinded can continue on the Devils Backbone or Thunder Mountain.

Sunset Ridge once you get the climbing done you are commented to finish the ride...no bailing out. Both downhills are loose but Sunset also has those fist sized chucks...ask CC and her hospital visit about those. Coming off Baldy there are no other roads to get off the main road. As I remember Sunset Ridge as some side action and other roads.

Great idea lets do it...we need one of these rides every month.

She speaks the truth, and I'd be down for any ride by then.

Jason, I would be in either way, Saturday's work best for me.

What Dean said about Sunset Ridge is true, you start off on a climb and then some dh and the pattern repeats itself a few times, so you are pretty committed once you start. Unfortunately coming down I hit a rut and went OTB, ripped my arm open, and had to ride another 8 miles to my truck. The trail is very rutted and you just have to be able to handle your bike coming down.

If we go to Baldy lets plan the extra credit for those who can handle it. It will make the trip that much more worth while.
