Default Black Star to Beek's Place Newbie Ride/Beek's Clean Up

It's been talked about on many threads and RR's, Now find out what the "PAIN DIVIDE' is all about. I'm leading a group of riders to Beek's for their first glimpse of the notorious Main Divide.

Meet 8am at Black Star Canyon Rd. just off Santiago Canyon Rd. Park at the enterance to Black Star near iron gate(Vision Quest/Counting Coup starting area). Some may choose to park at the Chrismas tree lot which adds a couple miles and is always a good warmup.

This is a great intro ride. It's a 8 mile fire road climb with a small descent to Hidden Ranch and a then a short climb up to Beek's Place. The pace will be moderate and with several regroups. Looks like we may have some MD Veterans coming along. This should be fun. We will leave no one behind!

While at Beek's we will do our part and police the area for trash. Join us and lets have a Main Divide Party.

Default How long will this ride take?

With a bunch of "newbs" and "the three wise men" leading us?

The only reason I ask is my Annual Block Party is Aug 4th. I'm pretty sure the timing will be just fine and if time is getting tight maybe I'll ride down Skyline with PainFreak (my house is a block from Skyline).

Thanks for Posting this ride!

During the Traverse, it took me about an hour(average speed 8+mph). It took Ty and I an hour and 45 min(ave. spd 4-5 mph) to get to Beek's including stops. With a bunch of newbs, regroups and I would think a fairly slow to moderate pace, it would take 2 hrs to get to Beek's. It doesn't take long to descend. I would guess about 3 to 3 1/2 hours. If we start out at 8am, we should be done well before noon(11:30ish or so). Hope this helps and hope you can still make it.

Question

Gene,

This is always a great ride... are we riding up to the ball or just to Beek's Place??? We should also do a little history on Beek's for the troops.

another data point to help those unfamiliar (possibly). think i do total ride (up/down) just under 2 hours and maybe get to top @ 1 1/4 hours? . im prob an intermed rider. (coming of DL so it a total cr@pshoot what i can bring) think total up is ~ 8 miles and ~2800 vert. gps map of ride attached. (ignore other loop markers think its from flying b). for those concerned there are a many "logical" places to rest/rally if needed along the ride. should be a fun ride

OMR
I would think there will be a few who would go to the ball while some will choose to rest at Beek's. The history lesson is a great idea!

Default just to be clear

I am slow - So no questions asked there will be waiting, at least for me...This ride is a month away and I will be "training" riding uphill & in elevation, but I will be slow.

I rode with Jordan & Chris at Peters Cyn last week and they led the pack..Allthough on some of the "hills" I did stay pretty close to them and on others I didn't (I just want to be clear on my climbing skills).

As long as waiting is not an issue, I will be there! This is a really "Big Goal" for me and I can't wait to do it with everyone!

As Gene has put it before: We will leave no one behind! Not to worry, this may be challenging for some.... but fun for all! In fact, Gene, for those that haven't done this ride, we will need a little celebration at Beek's to commemorate this auspicious occasion.

Thanks for volunteering to pull said trailer.

I'll bring a bottle of (cheap) bubbly, a beer or three and mabye a little MadDog 20/20 or Schlitz for those that hail from west side Long Beach

Once again, thanks for volunteering, Gene (you oughta know better, Never Again Volunteer Yourself)

I smoked for 28 years, started at 15. I quit 4 years ago. At 43, I'm healthier now than I was when I was 23. Riding will definitely help you to quit, but you have to decide that for yourself. No matter how many people(mom, dad, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, friends) ask/tell you to quit, it's only when you're ready that you'll finally stop. Good luck and be strong!

Ya it would be hard to lead and pull a BOB too, since I'll be going from front to back when I take pics.

Well, geez, I guess since youre an ex-smoker and ride leader, and since you set this up then I'll let you off the hook.

Depending on how many people go, I'll contribute some booze if someone wants to pull the BOB, oh and someone would need to provide said trailer

I have a said trailer in my garage, and I no I will not attach it to my bike I don't need to worry about carrying any more dead weight.

So who? I wonder will tow the Trailer? Seems to me this could be a job for _____!I've heard of a fellow towing a trailer at the "Social & Tea Party"Could be the extra work-out needed to attend a "newbie" ride.
