For us noobs, any suggestions on stuff to bring?

I will carry my usual stuff:

- tire tools and patch kit
- pump
- multitool
- camelbak

- garbage bag

Anything else I should pack?

jk!

The climb up Blackstar to Beek's is actually a decent climb. It's once you get *passed* Beeks that it gets really difficult.

If you're prone to cramping, bring some electrolites. I usually bring a bottle of Cytomax. I'll have plenty of bags and gloves to use, so you can leave yours at home unless it's already packed and didn't take up too much room in your camelbak. Other than that, just bring your smile cause it's going to be lots of fun!

I've just started riding with Cytomax in my camelbak. Tastes good and keeps my energy and electrolytes up. See y'all Saturday morning!

That MAY not be a wise choice!!! I've heard of people putting other stuff besides water in the bladder and no matter how much they wash it out, they still get mold growing in it....

Just use a water bottle w/ your recovery drink and keep the camelbak for H2O

I couldn't agree more. Also, there is nothing better than water when you are really, really thirsty.

Thanks for the advice. I clean the bladder pretty thoroughly and have not had a problem yet. I am kind of obsessive about cleaning the bladder, actually.

The way my frame is designed, a water bottle hits the lockout lever on my rear shock, so it keeps flipping in and out of lockout. That's incredibly annoying and makes for a bad ride. So I ride with only the camelback. I may try to stash my tools in my saddle bag and try to fit a frozen water bottle in the pocket of my pack. We'll see...

Blackstar is one of the easier SS climbs around. Nothing that steep out there. If I was going on the ride I would leave the 32x18 gearing on the Niner. Ya I would be out of the saddle alot, but it's that what SSing is about.
