Question Trail Legality Question

There is a singletrack trail in LCWP on Bommer Ridge, directly opposite Gate 12 to Moro Ridge. The trail, which apparently drops down in the area where Serrano Ridge passes under the 73, doesn't appear to be marked, although there are plenty of tire tracks suggesting frequent use.

I don't believe in thumbing my nose at the park system and wanted to know if this trail is open to mountain biking prior to riding it

Get the trail map from the rangers it lists all the legal trails. The trails are not marked well and it can be confusing...tires tracks are not a good indicator if it is a legal trail or not. Not sure exactly what trail you are reffering to but the only legal way that I can think of to get from Bommer to Serrano is by fireroad.

I believe that trail you are talking about is used to connect Bommer to El Morro. I've ridden it a few times on Docent led rides. The tire tracks are from the Docent rides. It is off limits unless you're with the Docents.

That trail you're talking about sound like Lizards. Did you pass over a rusted pipe at the trailhead? If so, that is lizards and it is illegal.

I did a thread on legal or illegal trails a while back and I rode Lizards on Father's day and ran into 3 rangers. We were told then that it, along with Marie Calendars and Drunken Sailor are closed to all users.

Interesting, last I had understood Lizards was open to hikers only I still see hikers using the trail, not that I ever ride it or anything because poaching trails is not a good thing

Ya, I was surprised too when she stated ALL users, but who knows for sure, I certainly don't. We were lucky it was Father's day and she was in a giving mood.

Gene, I don't know if there is a rusted pipe or not. I just happened to see the start of a singletrack when I exited Gate 12 at the top of Moro Ridge (if you were riding up Bommer and the gate to Moro Ridge is on your left, the trail in question would be on your immediate right...there is a small step up to the trailhead and it could easily be missed).

I was riding today down the legal fireroad trail off Willow that drops down to the 73 underpass/Serrano Ridge. I noticed a singletrack meandering down the hillside on the left from the general direction of Bommer and figured that it was the other end of the trail I had seen from the intersection of Bommer and Moro Ridge on a previous ride (hope that makes sense ).

I am very mindful about avoiding illegal/hiking only trails and wanted to ask you guys if you know what the status is before riding it. I do have a copy of the LCWP map but it is a little sketchy at best.
