well not sure what happened guys, but we split into a few different groups. I made the announcement at dean's truck that the slackers will be taking the street up to bypass climbing cholla. I believe Dean was going to try and meet Noel and friend along the main fireroad.. i don't really know what happened with justin, jeff and jeffrey.. My other friends headed over to 5 oaks. Everything was fairly uneventful until my second lap going down Rock It. Was going down the rock garden at a good pace, when my tube exploded and the rear tire came off the rim and i was riding down the rock garden on just the rim in the back. I couldn't stop, so i was going to ride it out and save myself from what could have been a nasty crash. Ends up the rim slides along the side of a rock and i come down hard on my arm and slide for a bit... Ended up loosing some skin, bleeding a little and completely destroying my tire... it had 4 sidewall tears... After dealing with the same thing going down Luge, its safe to say i'm never going to run a small block 8 again.
anyhow, Chris... good seeing ya again and its nice to see ya on the bike man. Dan, always a pleasure riding with you. Dean, freakin awesome bike.. even though you copied jeff Justin and Jeffrey, always good seein ya bastards Jeff, good meeting ya finally ![]()

Nam sorry to hear about your crash, hope you are OK. My last two hard crashs have been because of tube failures.
Jeffery, Jeff, and Justin went with me down Wood Canyon to get Noel and Mark who parked at the church. We then when back up Coyote Run to Cholla. It was warm out so we decided to stay up top where it was cool and go over to Meadows, which was still foggy and very cool. Noel and Mark bailed and we finished the ride by going up Rockit then down Lynx. Dean

Nam I am curious how you attridute a tube failure to the small block 8? A pich flat that another tire wouldn't pinch.

I also gave up on the SB8, though just because it seems so terrain-specific. (if you want to buy a slightly used one to replace your damaged tire.... ) I just did my first ride today with the combo of a 2.4" MutanoRaptor front & 2.35" Prowler XT rear, and really liked it. Still very fast rolling on hardpack, but definitely feels like it hooks up better on loose stuff than the SB8. Extra bonus - the Prowler was quieter on pavement than the SB8.2x with sidewall tears though - that's weird. I rode the 2.3" SB8 for about a month on pretty skinny rims, and never had a flat or failure, and I'm not a small guy. Heal soon!

the sb8 as you know has extremely thin sidewalls. it sounds like paper mache when its flat and rolling. Due to my riding style, it just is not a proper tire. When i ride whiting, its perfect since it is not too rocky and i don't ride that fast over there. On trails like the luge and rock-it, i tend to go at a faster pace and even with 35 psi in the tubes, i still managed to pinch/blow up tubes. Yesterday was no exception, i was going full speed, no brakes through the rock garden and i was waiting for the tube to pinch/blow on my first run down. Kenda's have always been a problematic tire for me in regards to pinching. Traction wise, its pretty good but in the loose over hard conditions we are currently having, it has been breaking loose a lot in the turns. I'm going to be trying out a Maxxis Larsen TT and i will most likely be purchasing a Schwalbe Nobby Nic tubeless when i rebuild my wheelset
