Climb up Chapman past Orange Hill and Orange County Mining Company restaurants.
Descend Chapman until you get to Jamboree, turn right.
Make the first right into the Albertsons parking lot.
Go down hill, turn left and park.

Default 9 am Sharp?

Hi Everyone -

It looks like we're going to have a good turn out again! So I just wanted to touch base and suggest we get started at 9:00 am sharp. It's going to get hot and i'd rather we do most of the ride while it's cooler.

This time i'll check my tires before we've stood around for 15 mins and are ready to go .

Thanks for posting directions guys...

I "recommended" to my lovely wife that to really enjoy Peters to its fullest a little trip up Big Red is worth the rollers on the backside and then dropping into the singletrack from the top. I am hoping to tag along for a bit of the ride, hopefully long enough to hit BIG RED!

rollers on back ridge are certainly worth it. Big Red is steep but short (totally doable) but you can also access "rollers" by passing up big red (will be on your left) and taking next left to access. alot less steep for newbies.

Hey people I wanted to remind everyone doing this ride or Oaks before hand the Hootenany Concert and Car Show is going on Saturday as well. Many of the people from that show park in the Albertsons parking lot and without knowing a better way to say this, many of the people at that show are shady. So, lock your car doors when you go riding. Also, I dont know how Oaks is going to be with the car show going on, I am sure fine but there will be alot more people in the area so heads up.

pics stolen from geoladders.

Route if you want to bypass big read (think all should hit it as a decent short burst climb and short fun st on backside that takes you to rollers..but posting just in case)

big red in distance

keep right to bypass (left to climb)

if bypass big red hit next left to hit rollers sans big red (staying right is flat to "end")

Air Jordan is right you should be careful out their and lock your stuff up. It kind of bums me out because I have rockabilly friends and some of my friends are showing their cars and out their. The problem is with young gang kids coming down and they drink too much and they get this liquid courage and they think they are ready to fight Mike Tyson. The Hootenanny in the very start was just rockabilly but now you the pshycobillys, mexican gangs, and mixed with your average OC white kid and that can be a recipe for bad things.

I picked up a friend at the last Hootenany at the Albertsons parking lot and it was completely covered in trash and broken glass...

Thanks for the heads up! What time does the Hootenany start?

Like Neil said, he has been TELLING me we have to do it, I was going to ask if there is a way around, (The Geoladders route looks like it avoids it) So Thanks Kid A..that's what I wanted to hear!

Now that I know there is a way around if needed, maybe we'll split up and regroup on the back side. That way people can choose..

Hill's kill me, I just quit smoking so I can get better on hills. I will probally ride it for a personal goal, and another incentive to stayoff the smokes...

Its not that big of a hill short and sweet so I would say give it a shot and you can always walk what you dont make. The other side is worth the climb up. I think the Hootenany gets going about 12pm with music but the show car people get lined up about 7am.

not sure best place to rally up but in event you are not aware there is also a housing community just across the street from park entrance. I usually just ride to Peters from my home but have parked there as well on street. have seen alot of riders park there to bypass park fee

I would just stick with the Albertsons parking lot. The $3 a Peters isnt going to break anyones bank but the parking lot is probably better for directions and people can hit up the store if they forget water or snacks. (since this is a newbie ride)
