Updated post per Request:
Okay here's the dillio. Meet -> Ride -> Picnic/BBQ Date: Saturday, Oct 6th Time: 9:30am Place -Meet at Irvine Park 9:30am. Lot #10. Directions in post #29 (park site has bench tables, bathrooms, water fountains, outside sink etc) Ride -Start rolling no later that 9:45am. Based on who shows figure out ride(s) based on "level" "Picnic" - at Irvine park to follow> Start around 11:30 and go to maybe 1:00 or a bit later. Food, drink and kids free raffle -swag donated by The Path, Adreneline bikes, Switchback Cyclery, JensonUSA and REI- Santa Ana!!! We can decide specific routes (try to accomodate all levels) but think will be at leat two groups 1) Trailer Crash Kids - Those pulling trailers and those seeking "flat" terrain. I had "mapped out" ~9 miles of dirt/pavement at Irvine..can always shorten based on group needs / wants or just do part of peters. I can lead this group pulling my son in trailer. (GPS map in post below..post #18 ) 2) Groms with Moms and/or Pops - Everyone else heads to peters Canyon for loop(s). Sounds like a few are very familiar with this park so hoping at least 2 adults can take on leading and sweep. btw- if you can pull trailer in peters feel free to join this ride As expected everyone’s safety particularly that of the children is most important. It is your sole responsibility to watch out for your child, guests and yourself. All young riders must be accompanied by a parent and/or guardian. Please make sure you and your child has the proper safety and repair gear (e.g. helmet, pads, spare tubes, etc), food/water and properly working bike or trailer. Please also step up to protect all others who you think may need some support along the way. In regard to picnic/bbq I will bring EZ up, tailgate BBQ (small propane webber) and will bring burgers, buns, condiments for all. I ask that others please volunteer to bring some other stuff such as plates, napkins, drinks, as well as any other food items cold or for the BBQ. Sound fair? Note I will only bring enough burgers and such for the head count as listed in the YES reply section. Also sounds like most are familair with trails at Peters Canyon, but I uploaded a vid in a post (#21) below of some of the trails if you have not ridden there. vid is only a section of the park and does not include the "climbs" in the park or the more "tech". note to change things up while tiding that day I rode route in opposite to typical direction. anticipate route may go other ways on ride Feel free to post any questions/comments or hit me with PM Original post below... Take your kid mtn biking Day -> http://www.imba.com/resources/kids/index.html Thought might be cool to posse up and rock some local trails with the kids riding along or in tow. ![]() Obviously a few months off but quick post up on calendar to reserve date. Anticipate location should be someplace conducive for kids riding and in trailers so perhaps Fully loop or link Peters and Irvine...maybe family BBQ/beers after. ![]() ![]() Anyway no urgency, can decide time place as gets closer just throwing on calendar now |

there's a way to link the "flatter" parts of peters, and irvine that could be doable for those with trailers and perhaps offer the kids riding a bit of fun as well + the regular trails that would keep the riders w/o "governers" on not too bored???? also close enough to oaks so one parent can ride with children and other can get their groove on at oaks and rally at end for a picnic???? again i'm totally open to all opinions as i believe others have more experience with local trails riding with their kids. speak up peeps! Kevin/Xhuskr - am sure the young kids would enjoy some entertainment. how about riding along with some big red clown shoes, green wig and make-up ![]()

parts of the loop would be ok, peters and irvine also good choices, even the beginning part of aliso starting at the ranger station and just going up aliso creek

Peters is a good choice, I could walk her bike up the 2 big hills, and walk her down the short downhill. Quote:

I would vote for Aliso.
Start at the church entrance and head to dripping cave.

Been thinking a bit more about this.. some thoughts below.
Meet up at Irvine regional park @ 9am (park there or ride from alberstons and ride in for those who dont want to pay) Would be cool to have everyone ride together but if not, have 2-3 "official" rides to accomodate all participants levels/interest 1) Trailer Crash Gang - Some combination of Irvine (loop in park) and "flat" dirt on way to oaks. (pretty much anyone pulling a trailer that does not want much climbing. I can spec this out and offer a loop for consideration 2) Groms with Moms (and Pops) - ride loop at peters canyon. (younger kids that are riding bikes and are comfortable on tamer trails such as Peters...they may have to walk a few sections but should be safe. obviousl those that want to trailer there can as well if we have large enough turnout for another group, perhaps... 3) Young Bucks who can Huck (hucking not required )- Loop at oaks, perhaps up B's down chutes/zips. Basically anyone riding with their kids who can hang with the best of us (and show us a thing or two).Total ride time ~ 2 hours...all groups meet back up together at Irvine park If this makes sense maybe we can have at least 1-2 people per group to volunteer to lead a ride to lead and sweep. Since I'll be on Stinky with trailer i'm probably be in group #1. Seeing that Irvine Park in in close proximity to all the above seems a good choice(?) and maybe we can arrange a BBQ there as well after ride for everyone that rides as well as family members who don't ride but are way cool enough to let us get our ride on while they TCB at home. if so, will need some vol to help set up and vol food, gear, etc. Was hoping that we could even get some of the local LBS's to donate some kids bikes, gear etc. for a free raffle for the kids as this is all about them a getting them introduced and excited about a sport we all love. (hint, hint!!) Maybe Share an/r Warrior Society want to help plan to spread the love of dirt among our next gen (another hint, hint!!) Open to any ideas - just speak up Note - everyone is welcome to join in and ride. bring your kids and/or you friends kids. Even come alone. I am sure some of the kids would love to see some of the STR mad bike skills (table hucks, Stoppies, one handed wheelies, etc). However you decide to participate PLEASE make sure you take responsibility for your own and those around you!!! we do not want ot add anyone of the young'uns to the DL list

trail-male for hire...
|
Looks like Irvine/S.Oaks/Peters...
I could lead a more adventurous group through Peters hitting the a couple more climbs and single-tracks. Nothing "5-10", but more fun than the main trails. I could also sweep on the way up S.oaks, as I would be DFL or near to it anyway. The way down chutes and zips is another story ![]() |

As promised "scouted out" a potential ride in the irvine park area for the wee lads (and ladettes?) and those being pulled in trailers.
Pretty flat. Approx 9 miles total (including leaving from and returning to alberts PL) with prob 5 - 5.5 miles of it on dirt. is this a good distance for those pulling and those riding 20"? Some loose sandy spots, doubt will cause issue for riding but will prob kick-up sand on the trailers (put the screen down!) and for those pulling trailer kids will def be bouncing a bit (as comped to pulled on asphalt). No hammer down, kids pace, periodic stops prob takes ~1 -1.5 hour (just guessing). Assume others are familiar with peters and oaks so no need to post up trail route there, right?. Just an idea. Thoughts??? are people still interested or should we scrub and just do our own thing that day?

A - Trying to get a big group to come to a concensus is going to be tough. I would go ahead and make a plan for the little kids and edit your initial post with the details. Might be a good idea to set up a BBQ after so those opting for more advanced rides can meet up later. Just an idea.
I'd be happy to help out any way I can. C
