Anyone know if it is possible to get from lytle creek all the way over to the mt baldy lifts on a bike? and even from the baldy lifts up to baldy peak? I dont think san sevain will do the trick, but I am sure there has got to be some fireroad that takes you all the way over there. Any maps that I could find all the fireroads on to try and plan an excursion?

There are a few fire/jeep trails that run from Lytle Creek to Lone Pine Canyon Road on the backside. I haven't been back there in years so I'm not sure if they're maintained anymore. Check with the Lytle Creek Rangers Station (909) 887-2576. They will have an updated trail and forest road map for ya.

Been there done that. Looks good on a map but Lytle Creek Road from the shooting range to Stockton Flats is a mess. It is like riding up a creek bed...which it is since the El Ninos a few years back. I suppose you to could walk that section. Here is a picture maybe a half mile below Stockton Flats....and yes that is the intersection of two roads. Or maybe get someone with a 4-wheel drive to drop you off at Stockton Flats. Also a picture from Baldy Notch looking down at Stockton Flats...the tall trees in the wash. If you where serious about doing it you might want to climb from the Manker Flats side to the Baldy Notch then come out Lytle Creek, it would be tough but you may be able to ride parts of the wash downhill. You can get to the peak from the lifts...very popular hiking. You can easly ride a bike to Devils Backbone, from there I have not rode it but know people that have. From DB to top I believe more pushing than riding. That is the trail going to the peak over my back tire. Dean

I think there is a way to go through Cucamonga Cyn if I'm not mistaken. But I'm not sure where you would want to start. I know that when Gurp, Epic and I did it we could have continued on the fire road til reaching a gate that leads over to Lytle creek...Then when we went the other way, you can take a different fire road to Baldy? Anyone know the names of those trails?

Mr. Freak and I rode part of it this winter. To me that is a winter ride as there are few trees out there and you are in the sun the whole way.

The Devil's Backbone is somewhat strenuous just to hike, but it's probably your best bet. I doubt there's anyone who could ride up from the bowl.
I couldn't ride the DB, for sure, but there are riders who possess the skills and the mojo. There can't be many. Keep in mind that there are sections that can be hazardous. You crash, you get a ride on a Blackhawk. If anyone's done this, please tell. |

I want to attempt this someday, I just have to find people crazy enough to join in with me. I haven't hiked DB, but I will before I try to ride it. I have hiked the front way and I don't think riding a bike down that is very possible. There are two sections where the trails is STEEP and soft and probably you would have to walk your bike down. But all the other parts would be a blast! I don't think it is illegal to ride bikes (i.e. wilderness area or anything), but I do know that it is heavily frequented by hikers so you would have to watch out and be VERY courteous. I wouldn't mind hiking down a few spots on DB just to get my bike up to over 10k ft of elevation.

Going up the Lytle Creek side is not going to be fun, but will let you claim to have done it, where few others have. Mark (SSheetz) rode to the summit over there and posted some pix not to long ago. And he did it on his ss. Dean's right though about the conditions and I believe you'd spend a lot more time porting your bike then riding it. THe scenery is really nice and I plan on hiking it soon.
