Loop'n on my Heckler

There's been several links to the meeting site posted in the past few trips - you'll find it easy.
As for bikes, my son's first try on the loop was with a super small bike (for him - maybe 20" tires), an old Schwinn hardtail, hardnose (?). He cleaned every climb but got a little rattled on one or two downhills. Now he runs a old Trek 8500 with even older SID fronts. He loves it. The older you are the more suspension you'd like to have under your butt. ![]()

FyrFytrRyn- Pain Freak brought up some very good points regarding supplies needed for the ride. I have a few more... ski parka, 200oz. of water, swiss army knife, extra pair of wool socks, bear repellent, MRE's, waterproof matches, flare gun, a spare bottom bracket etc. One essential (yet overlooked) tool that WILL come in handy- a bottle opener!!!
As for which bike to bring- If you have more than one, leave the DH bike at home. If not, bring the big bike! If you get tired, we can take turns pedaling it for you. Don't worry about the light. By all means, strap a flashlight to your helmet!!! Some of "US" have been known to do the same thing!!! Directions- 1275 North Berkeley Avenue, Fullerton, CA 92832 - Google Maps |

Ryan,
Seriously, the Fullerton Loop is where I train for DH. I'm not kidding. Other than a couple times at Fontana, I haven't ridden anywhere but the Loop for a long time (I know, I need to get out more). My bike of choice is a singlespeed. But when my knee is bothering me, I'll ride a 5-1/2" travel bike. Any bike will do (although your DH bike will kick your ass, but it is doable). I don't know an address, but if you can look up courthouses, it's the North Orange County Municipal Court. Near the corner of Berkeley and Harbor in Fullerton.

Actually, I've ridden the loop many times on one of my big bikes (8" front and rear suspension and rotors). However, TLD helmets suck for breathing. Most of the lost people have been found in neighboring cities of La Mirada, Brea, Buena Park, or Quada La Habra.
