Do you like riding bikes and drinking beer? (yes, you can do the "and" here, before, during, and after, if you like)
Ready for an evening adventure ride? Want to do a ride that you've never done before in OC? Then you're ready for a BOHICA! Bohica H3 May 16 2007 Although you can ride virtually any kind of bike, an mtb is recommended (although there will probably be people there with hybrids, and likely someone will be on an old BMX bike). I can't really explain the route or trail, since only the hare knows (the leader who will be riding 15 minutes ahead of the pack, leaving marks on the ground while occasionally trying to trick us). I've been doing these for a couple years, and they are extremely fun. Explanations of what's on the website: LFH = Look For Hashers The $5 cost includes beer (they usually have a keg or two) and snacks at the end Shiggy: water, dirt, mud, bushes, fences, etc... Oh, and when asked at the down-downs, just remember that NoNukey4U made you come. |

We had about 25 bike riders. Had a lot of fun last night. Explored areas of Costa Mesa I never expected to have offroad trails. We also made our way through Sheep Hills, where I got to spend a few minutes hitting some small doubles. We also went through another area that had some easy jumps as well (near the mini railroad area).
Rode in a few drainage ditches and through a few tunnels, along trails behind backyards (stuff kind of like the fully loop), a few short hike-a-bike sections, and over a few fences. Great Turkey/Eagle splits (I only rode the Eagle routes, but I think the Turkey routes were ok, too). Lots of great shiggy - and a lot of places you'd never go unless you're doing a bash. Plenty of beer was consumed before, during, and after the ride. And at the end, there were hot dogs wrapped in bacon, lots of snacks, and plenty of beer waiting for us. There were no other STR riders, but I wasn't really surprised, since these rides are a bit more adventurous than most mtb riders are used to (we did have a couple world-class offroad motorcycle racers, though).

Great to hear about. I'd like to do the next one.
I take my kids to Fairview park (next to the RR). It's a great place to get kids used to riding on dirt. Terminaut hosted a couple of event there that were a lot of fun. One was a beach cruiser ride - we had a gravity race, a couple of regular races and a hill climb. The other was a 'catch the rabbit' type event on MTBs. I'm thinking we need to have a STR BBQ/ride event there.
