Still going, but looks like no Plunge;

"... area closure ... including the Cherry Hill Road, Horse Meadow, Big Meadow and Cannell Meadow... ...south to include the Cannell Trail...The campgrounds along the Kern River, Mountain Road 99 and the Sherman Pass Road all remain open to forest visitors."

Default Cannell

I just talked to my neighbor who works for the Forest Service and he said there are no restrictions up there. Cannell trail and Cherry Hill road road are open. We are good to go!

I spoke with MRA this morning and they said road is closed to Sherman Pass. Hope they're misinformed.

Frank, does this mean the trip is off for you and your crew?

We're heading up there later this month also, so glad to hear it! Thanks for keeping us updated.

BTW, I know it's typically a shuttle, but I can't find much info or trail map sources etc... how bad of a climb would it be to ride from town to Sherman Pass? We missed out on a ton of good riding last weekend in Dville, so didn't want to do the same thing up there. Anywhere to find good online info for Cannell and JO?

Default info

I would think that MTBBill has the best online info on Cannell. There are some good maps there. I have never seen a good map of JO. The forest service map doesn't even have all of the trail on it. Besides, some of the best parts aren't on any map. People do ride Cannell as a loop from Kernville. It involves about 20 miles of easy climbing on a busy paved road with no shoulder, then about 10 miles and 5500' of climbing on a less busy paved road with no shoulder. Have fun.
