Now that I've already said there's nothing too tech on this ride, I forgot about Cindy Whitehead if we finish with that. That might sway me over to more squish. Burner and others did it on 29" softtail/hardtails. Maybe they can chime in. The tech is about 2 miles of gnarly, loose downhill at the very end of the ride. I'm leaving the RFX at home and riding my 5 Spot. I think it's the perfect bike for this ride.

Really look forward to doing this ride one day, but just can't make it happen this time.

Have fun all, and take lots of pics. for the vicarious crowd.

hmm, this is a fun ride - we may drag some folks down that a way saturday.... will get back to you guys.....

FWIW i have done this ride 2x on a SS hardtail. This time I am going to bring gears. It's certainly doable on a ht ss but man was I tired at the end.

And I am for sure bringing armor - not for the rocks but for the pokey plants! I was getting scratches in my scratches last time - owwwwwwwww!

Awesome!! I hope you guys make it out! Since you've ridden it... 1x9 29er soft tail or 6" FS Enduro?? I dunno about armor, btw.

I've done this trail with Cj and let me tell you... my scratches had scratches also. It looked like I lost a fight with a porcupine!

If you have armor bring it. Without question you will be shredded at the end without it.

Also, as CJ said, some form of flat protection should be considered absolutely necessary. If you decide to run standard tubes you will be in for a long day and keep everyone waiting while you fix multiple flats.

This is a great ride.

What is the best bike for this route? An all mountain bike, or 1x9 29er soft tail?

Hopefully we'll have enough tubes to get us through
Take a good GPS (Edge 305) along and post the route as new. My calculator says the ride is worth about 66 points. 35 points is ridiculous.

I would say it is worth more than 66 also... SART is over a 100 I think...

Hey everyone...Weather looks outstanding for this weekend! Looks like we are going to have a blast! SWEETNESS! They are calling for a 77 high.

Also, who is in for SART? I really would like someone that really knows the area to accompany myself and ben. Does anyone know of the best route to take there for maximum techical flowy fun singletrack? Let me know what routes are the best...

I'll have my Edge and will post it up as a new route with the Palm Canyon Epic title. I'd offer to try to make it official, but that usually takes a lot of time!

I am in for SART. I have not ridden it before so I won't be much help as far as where to go. Whatever we decide to do we may end up adjusting that on Sunday morning depending on how worked everyone is from Saturday.

I never wear armor, ever.... but i'm bringing it for this one! Its not the DH stuff that gets you, its the pokeys.....Honestly after last year I had not a square centimeter without a scratch on my legs....quite a few bloody...screamed when I got in the tub...

I think you will be fine on either bike. If there is one you prefer to spend all day on, then choose that one.

Take the Enduro & the armor, you'll enjoy the ride more.

I've been out there 3 times

Heh, heh, heh... I remember the s-l-o-w descent into the hot tub after Palm Springs also. After about ten beers the pain started to go away!

They're both fun in their own way. I just don't know if I want to be the slowest climber and a fast descender, or middle-back of the pack at both As long as you beeches don't mind waiting for me granny gearing my way up on a 34lbs bike!

I gues I'll give in and wear the shin guards they're just so hot and not good to pedal in!

Aight, it's decided then.

Y'all watch out on the downhills, I'm coming through!!

If everyone promises to behave maybe I can offer up a pool (my mom lives out there). We may need to shuttle people in, though! Let me know if anyone is interested and I'll find out from her how many guests she can have.

This ride is the best everyone! I lived out there for a while (not really but i was down there riding like 3 weeks in a row one time! So many great trails!) I say that since the ride is so good you do an encore the following weekend!! Temps should still be low enough for it and with the detours sand is not a problem. Then all the people that couldn't make it have another chance.
