Default Noble Canyon 4/28 or 5/5?? Attn: Allison/Mechmann

I wanted to throw this one out there early. I'd like to ride Noble Canyon in the next few weeks--and Nam posed the question in another thread, so... I'm out of town from 4/14-4/21 so a weekend after that would work great for me. I was thinking Saturday 4/28 or Saturday 5/5. How about you? Chime in with what works for you and lets get this planned.

I would like to ride the route Allison and Mech rode on 3/31. Up Noble, loop around BLT and back down Noble. I've been to Noble many times but have never climbed it (yes, I was a shuttle whore--I was fat, gimme a break ) and I would like to know the route they take up. I've also ridden BLT half a dozen times or so. It would be awesome if Allison & Mech can help me play tour guide.

Mileage will be around 30 and 5,000+ of climbing. I'd like it to be a mild pace. All you sickeningly fast riders can ride ahead and take pics

What day is best for anyone wanting to attend?

4/28 is the 24 hours of Hurkey Creek also, so anyone racing that will be busy

We rode at Noble during Summer. It's not horrible if you pick a cooler weekend! Last year we did it on Saturday of Memorial weekend and had a great time (it was the first time we did this route).

FWIW, it was about an 8 hour day on Saturday. Half that or so was riding. So, we did spend a good amount of time just hanging out, taking pics, etc. But definitely for anyone on the fence about this one, make sure you know it is a FULL day of riding!

I'm down with making it for 5/5, that way anyone racing or wanting to watch can. I'm also definitely down with lots of rest time

Bummer, May 3-6 is the NORBA Nationals at Fontana. Otherwise we would love to join in.

We can make it for 4/28. I believe Allison said they could do it that weekend but 24 hours @ Hurkey Creek was that weekend and that may preclude someone from going. Nobody has mentioned that as being a hinderence so why don't we switch it to 4/28?

Boo hoo, 4/27-29 is the Firestone Walker Classic in Santa Barbara. Why are all the good rides the same weekend as the races.

Simple solution---attend/enter less races

Default 4/28 it is!

Okay, let's just settle the date for April 28. Sounds like people that can't make it one weekend aren't good for the other. Hopefully it won't mess with too many schedules. I know there are a few people that want to ride the 24 HOA at Hurkey Creek, but that's cool. We can always do another trip later in the summer/fall.

Doug, you said you wanted to do the entire Tour de Noble (29-30 miles, over 4500ft of climbing). Last time we rode this it was an 8 hour day. Not 8 hours of ride time, but 8 hours out on the bike. There is one place about halfway through that we should be able to fill up Camelbak's and bottles.

The other option is about half the ride. We can still climb up Noble from the lower trailhead (Extra Credit), and descend the really fun singletrack before climbing up the horrid pavement. Then we'll still climb up Indian Creek singletrack, but will skip out on Upper Noble and the BLT loop, and just descend down Noble.

I highly recommend the entire tour, but I think there are people that would love to go and do the shorter ride as well.

Comments, complaints? If we get a few responses I'll post up a ride and we can see who all is interested. Should I do a poll?

BTW, when are the second set of jerseys going through?? I feel left out not having one

Default I'm in

I haven't ridden Noble before so I can't pass up this chance. The route sounds great, I guess I'll get to see all the main trails in one day!!
Whats the best/closest campsite, to the trial head?

I'm in - would opt for the full ride with a very early start - but I'm game for either.

There's a campground up at BLT. I don't know too much about it, though Other than that, maybe check in Pine Valley ?

I'm down for the whole ride. Like I said before, I would've joined you last time out but was concerned about the mileage and elevation, since I had never done that much mileage with that much climbing. I did a route on Saturday that was 25+ miles and 3,650 elevation and felt good to go the whole time--I know that's nothing to you skinny folk, but to a former fat boy it is.

I would like to go at the pace you described--with lots of photo ops.

Just out of curiosity, do you actually climb up the entire trail or is there any pavement?? I don't mind either way, just wondering.

We do a short stint on pavement, but it really doesn't help that it's paved It's still a sucky climb. Most is on dirt!
