Looks like at least two breweries are representing. I know of at least 3 others in the wings. Should be a good time!

Looks like I might be able to make this one, just have to shuffle some days around at work.

Will this be a family freindly event?...be honest Andy
Camping close by?
Heard some great things about Downieville!

If you do go up there take some time and drive over towards Tahoe, and do the trail "Hole in the Ground"' everytime I think of that trail it brings a smile to my face. That was a really fun trail.

I think you'll fall in love with biking again. Family friendly? Sure. I just wouldn't camp right next to my campsite. Might want to stay away from the Oregonians and the NorCal'ers too. I'm pretty sure the kegs will be housed in my campsite (if not tent!!!! )
Seriously, family friendly? Yes, I would not have it any other way. Well unless.....

I'll be going the same weekend (Memorial day) - flying into Reno Friday night - booked a cottage at The Lure Resort - we should try to hook up for a ride.

After Sea Otter, it looks like the event is gaining a lot of ground. We have picked up several sponsors and four breweries are planning on representing as well!
I can almost taste the wonderful Downieville dirt (and beers) already!!!!

If you don't mind camping with a beer drinker.... you can camp around my site. I'll be heading up Thurs. 1x1clyde and family are heading up too. If you look on MTBR's regional forums, you can look into the Oregon, NorCal, Arizona and SoCal forums to find info.
If you have any questions, just ask. I am officially organizing the event, K-Max is the computer guru so he is posting most of the info. Just ask!

Yeah I asked a few (like where to shower). Speaking of which, isn't the river kinda cold in June?? Oh man.

If there will be a lot of people will space we'll just grab a spot somewhere Maybe we'll head up on Thurs also and try to get in before dark.

I'll definitely get info from you as it gets closer.

You said you'll have all the beer, right? Sounds like a good place to camp to me

riding downhill on a trail and racing downhill on a DH course are significantly different. i think the difference will be apparent after you race DH at Fontana.

for example, i am a pretty fast rider going downhill on any bike (i am near the front on descents when on group rides with my HT 29er). i was nowhere near fast on the DH course when compared with the sport class DH racers, and i was riding the appropriate race-specific machine (Intense Socom)

i love to descend on my bike. climbing sucks because i am not a skinny dude, i can climb but usually am thinking of the DH the whole way. riding XC is fun, riding XC that is mostly down hill is more fun. that is why people ride the DH course on XC bikes at Downieville.

hope that answers your question

Make sure you get a warm bag! Also, if you get an REI tent you may need multiple engineers to put it up for you

i'm gonna stop by walmart since they have a bunch of cheap sleeping bags/tents... i'm thinkin a 0-20 degree bag will be good.

Mine goes down to 30, so hopefully it'll be okay. I was still chilly up at Idylwilld a few weeks ago, though.
