I suppose we'd better set a time to do the major rides for the benefit of people coming up for the day.
Dean - seeing as you are the (nominated) official host I'll allow you to do the honours and either shock us with your sleep in time or demoralise us with a hangover laden early start time.....

Has a ride schedule been planned out yet? What time and which trail are we starting on Saturday?

Well, let's wait and see what the schedule is. So keep the night ride at San Juan as an option.

I was also wondering the ride schedule.

I remember reading Sat - Thomas Mtn / Ramona Trail, and possibly a night ride at Hurkey Creek for those interested. Just curious as to what the Sunday ride is. Estimated times would be nice. Hopefully not *too* early! I don't think it takes all day to ride the Ramona Trail, but there are plenty of good places to take photos and play around.

I'll have my camera!!

Typically check-out at the campground is around 11, but since it's a Sunday and probably not packed I don't think it's an issue to hang around.

On Sunday you can jsut move the cars from the camp ground to the car park and carry on riding - thats my plan.

Come on Dean lets hear your ideas on ride times.
I'll be doing a lap of Hurkey Creek on Friday afternoon :-)

What time?

Is everyone planning on doing a night ride Saturday night? I dunno. More beer, less pedaling

Well.......I need to hit REI either tonight or Friday morning to pick up a kick ass tent and I aim to be at the camp site for 3-4pm and do a leisurely lap at about 5 jsut to see the sun go down and take some photos. Come back, pitch the tent, try and poison myself with my own cooking, sink a few beers, ride the bike about drunk and fall off alot, start singing, fall asleep and repeat as necessary for the entire weekend :-)

Dean wanted to leave the ride schedule up to me, but I'm flexible. The two main rides we talked about were Thomas Mtn and the "Shuttle". The shuttle starts at Humber park near Idylwild and ends at the campground. There is a steep paved climb in the middle and some options near the 24hr course to get back. The only reason I wanted to do the shuttle Sunday was easier ride-easier drive home. It's proabably possible to do both in one day, but it will be a long day. If people are coming up for single day rides maybe they should set ride times?
Who's coming up single days and what time can you get there? and what day?

I know that pavement climb on the middle of the Humber Shuttle, I am leaving the SS at home...I walked most of it last time and I had gears.

Erm, we're bringing 1x9's

Speaking of... were you guys planning on climbing up the trail then descending, or climbing up Thomas Mountain?

Well for what its worth here's my plan:

Friday afternoon: Hurkey 24hr loop
Friday night: Same again with a beer or two
Saturday morning: 24hr loop
Saturday day: Thomas mountain/Ramona
Sunday morning: Hangover
Sunday day: Shuttle ride or Spring challenge course

Ride up Thomas mountain fireroad then descend Ramona - it was a nice fire road climb in January (with snow ) and the descent is fast techy heaven. I'll probably do the road ride to the start and back to the camp site too

Ernie Maxwell Trail, which is the first trail on the Humber Shuttle is not to be missed and the main reason I am going out there to ride. Last time out there it was a hit and we rode it three times.

Video teaser of Ramona Trail from MTB Bills site. Video link near bottom of page.

Anyone still have only one tent at a camp site still? The thought of shacking up with jasper in his 1 man tent sent chills down my spine.

Of course, if push comes to shove...

So far we've only got one tent and vehicle, and I think there are a few others as well in the same situation.

Yup, we've got only one tent and car at our site also Patrick. Lemme know if you're interested.

BTW, is there an official menu for this trip or is it everyone for themselves?

No clue about cooking - I have the ability to make fire (not spontaneously!) but no cooking implements. I'm up for supplying a ton of food if someone wants to cook it.

I think Dell and I both planned to grab a few items between the two of us to share. more than likely we'll pick up some extra stuff. Seeing as there are quite a few of us heading up, I think it may turn into an every-few-men for themselves.
