Default An addition to the SART you might consider in the future...

If you drive to Angelus Oaks and drop a car off in front of the Oaks Dinner and continue on to Jenks Lake Road (West) take that up to the gate (park there) continue on to the trail head up the dirt road. Once on the trail it's all downhill single track (some of it totally BMX by the river and some of it very rocky) back to South Fork Campground. Cross 38 and jump back on the SART back to the Oaks Dinner ... Shuttle back to the cars on Jenks Lake Loop. An awesome ride but not for the faint of heart. Total mileage is approx 28 miles.

I think I would wait another couple of months for the snow to be gone on the Jenks Lake portion. I rode a portion of this in Jan... still lots of snow in the gulches. This trail is a total gas and I will post when doing this sometime in April.

OLM...

If you are gonna do the post office to the camp ground you might as well just do the camp ground back to the post office. Then if you do that, you might as well just take that trail down to mentone, then you still got quite a ride back. If you are gonna attempt it atleast have a cell phone to call mommy when you need a ride home.

Oh yeah and the south fork campground is right on the 38, its not even a short distance its just right there, but like i said, its not a straight downhill shoot down the 38 from there, it will take you a good amount of time pedaling to get back to the post office.
no, im not riding post office to southfork and back, im riding post office to southfork, southfork to bryant, and bryant to home. is the route you guys are taking ending @ the same place the rout ends on geoladders? because thats the route im thinking of. from southfork to my house is not that far. ill only be on the 38 for like 1-2 miles downhill.

how far are you thinking southfork is from the mill creek ranger station???

Well the trail that starts at the post office goes up to southfork campground. From the mill creek ranger station you are going up the 38 for quite a while and then from the post office to southfork campground it is even farther. I rode the trail last time a long time ago, but I know its more that just 1-2 miles. The ranger station is before you ever really start heading up the hill.

okay, then the map on geoladders must not be the map you guys are thinking of. ive ridden from my house to the morton lookout and back (morton lookout road is neer the end point of the SART on geoladders), so i know from the ranger station to the end point of SART on geoladders isnt far at all. maybe this "southfork" isnt the actual end point for geoladder's SART route.

For this option are you starting at Poopout hill and if so is the trail hard to find?

Don't know if that is the name for the fire road off of Jenks Lake Road West. The trail down starts at a large tree on its side... trail not marked.... but a great ride anyway. I'll be leading a ride up there once the snow is gone... probably April/May. Will post.

looks like poopout hill is pretty far away from this trail in general. im currently using google earth to see how far southfork is from mill creek ranger station. ive ridden this trail before and ended up just above the ranger station, this was a few years ago.

so this ride DOESNT END HERE???
Geoladders --

upon further research, it looks like you guys are riding a completely different trail than geoladders, ive ridden the geoladders one, not this one though, they are both SART?

Thanks. I've done the lower section from the Rockwheel thing but never all the way from the top.

They are the same trail. There are a few different ways you can ride it with a couple of bypasses and extra credit sections. The pic in the Geoladder link is across Hwy 38 from South Fork CG. This is the farthest spot east and turn around point for the way most people ride it.

Looks like they call this trail the Lost Creek Trail... we've always called it part of the SART... seems to be another trail that leads into the SART... anyway a great connection.

The last time we did this ride, we arrived at South Fork sometime around 11 or 12. However, I don't know who is starting at the post office, so I don't know the pace of the group. You might want to leave your contact info with someone who is starting at the post office. That way we can contact you if we're running late.

I am also starting the ride late. Anyone bringing a GRMS two-way Radio. If so tune it to Channel 5/12.

Sometimes I get cell service near the Highway but never on the trail.

That is the time we can shoot for, hopefully a little quicker but we will see how it goes.
Can we start a roll call up and see who is meeting where?
