Default palm canyon epic with cindy whitehead

looking to see if there is any interest in this ride.
looked at the weather for Sun, low 33, high 63, so pretty cold in the morning but not to bad in the afternoon. will be a long day, mileage around 28, Also not to much climbing mostly downhill since this is a shuttle ride. will talk about times and meeting areas if there is enough interest. tom the bomb knows all the ins and outs of this ride maybe he will chime in.

This is such a cool ride. I really want to do it again. I'm in AZ all week so La Familia will need some attention when I get home. I think I'm good to go but will confirm Fri/Sat.

Please - anyone coming on this ride. Do not do this ride with standard tubes. You will flat. Most likely multiple times. Slime tubes, Stan's, tire liners, etc are a necessity.

Mr. Tuffy has always worked for me on this ride. Done the ride 5 times now with only 1 actual flat on the ride and that was from not enough tire pressure, not from a needle or anything. Have had a few flats the next day (2 i think), but atleast I didn't have to change a tire on the trail.

I am looking at being in on this ride again. Like I have said before, I LOVE IT! Even though it is a shuttle, it still takesa a lot out of you so don't be fooled, especially ending with cindy whitehead, that trail takes a lot of effort.

I was looking at Stan's today on the internet... Getting ready for the ride. I'm in.

Craig-

Have you ever had any problems with tires blowing/malfunctions with running Stans instead of tubes?

What tires do you find that work best?

Craig

Big tires with a wide footprint seem to work the best for what I've rode out there (2.35 to 2.5).But I've seen almost about everytire combo you can think of.

Mark the Slime goo works pretty good out there, but Stans is the best. (I remember our last ride where you swore off the junk) I've tried to get away with just the Mr Tuffy's and it just doesn't work as good. If you buy the preslimed tubes they are of a heavier gauge then a regular tube so this helps a little more. The one time my slimed tubes did not hold up was when I had 9 tiny little holes in the tube.

Me personally, I do fine with the mr tuffys. I just use the regular basic tubes that cost like 10 for 20 at jensons. All you gotta do is not run over any cacti and you should be good to go

I've had great luck with Stan's. I did burp a Kenda Blue Groove at Mammoth but I was running 20 psi. 25+ psi no issues. For tires I like the Kenda Nevegal/Blue Groove combo but they are tricky to set up initially. If you don't have an air compressor, I'd just pay an LBS to convert them regardless of the tire brand.

I'm running a Maxxis High Roller on my 5 Spot and it sealed up perfectly the first time. I'm liking this tire too.

No experience here. I've run Slime juice in quads with good results before. I've heard positive results with Slime tubes other than them being heavy.

Default tires flats

Mark,
Chances are we are not going through the river bed this time . Where we picked up the thorns was when we rode on the side of the river bed.
We will be in it until we hit the turnout and then climb around it to dunn rd.
Just stay on the trail and you will be fine.
If you like wtb tires the weirwolf Lt's are good lite and convert to tubeless real well.
The newer nevegals are converting better also. Just make sure you put 2 scoops of stans in each tire.

By the way, if you make Cindy Whitehead...

We came to a fork and went right to catch the switchback. Left would have taken us down a trail that looked rather boring. If you go to the right, look left while at the top. There is another trail that descends steeply and exits in the same area as the left fork. That looks like the most challenging finish to CW.

As long as we don't have another flat-fest I think 8 - 8:30 again would work but it really doesn't matter to me unless it gets too late. I don't want to finish in the dark again.
