Default San Sevaine (Sapphire side)

Here's the plan, we will be starting from the end of Sapphire street in Rancho Cucamonga at 7:30 am. There will be about 12 miles of some pretty hard climbing. Plan for an all day ride in excess of 6 hours. I've never gone up this way, but have descended it coming from the other side (Lytle Creek). We will be stopping along the way and regrouping. Anyone is invited, but be forewarned this is a difficult ride and the pace will be somewhat on the slower side. Bring plenty of water and food.Salt and or endurolytes wouldn't be a bad idea either. If you need anymore info just PM me and I'll be happy to respond.

Let's go! This will be fun! It's definitely a tough climb up, but there's some killer views and the trip back is a really fun downhill. If you haven't been up in the San Bernardino Nat'l Forest areas, you should check this out. The climb will make you question your sanity and your dedication. But, you can't call yourself a mountain biker if you're afraid of some pain and a climb. It's challenging for sure, but you'll feel you accomplished something afterwards!

Nice to see this ride being put together, it's been many years since i've done the San Sevaine / Cucamonga Canyon / Frankish Peak area.

Have fun out there!

The kids and I are all sick now. Well, I've got the sniffles, anyway. I'm touch and go on this ride right now. I really want to do it, though, with the snow today, but I may need to stay home and tend to the sick babies. I'll let you know.

If it makes you feel any better, I took the today off (my oldest is coming home from 6th grade camp) and figured I could squeeze a ride in.
Of course I pulled a back muscle this morning right after I got up.
No ride for me.

Is this going to be a "bag a peak ride"?

If yes, and there is snow, I am interested in going. Besides I know how much Mike likes the cold...I can use his new camera to take pictures of him turning blue.

Dean it looks to me like anything above this elevation may be snowed in. I'm not sure how far up I can go anyways, but if you want we can give it a go. I'm just not going to be willing to go till around 9am, you interested?

Yes lets see how far we can make it in the snow. 9am is better because it will be a little warmer.

I need directions.

Sorry Sir Gurp. One thing I found about mtb'ing over the years.

"The rides go on even if we don't."

I'd of much rather had you join us.

Yeh! what Mike said, sorry you can't make it. Get better soon. I think that road riding is making you sick.

LOL. It's not the road rides, per se. It's the little disease vectors at the end of the ride.

Well, let me know how it was and when you're going back.

Today we decided it was time to burn, as in burn the legs/quads. Dean met me at my house at 9 or so and we drove over to the trailhead which is only a few miles away. With a little searching we found it as there has been some new construction in the area and it looked different. The climb from the start of this trail is, to put it modestly STEEP!
We weren't trying to set any land speed records and I've climbed some of this a few times so I remembered a little of how it was going to go. When I first started mtb'ing I used to push my bike up to the second gate and today we just rode up to it and right on by. Don't get me wrong this trail is as steep as any that I've rode around these parts. I don't know of to many that are equal to it.

The trail itself is a fireroad, but with the collapsing of the fireroad and the brush encroahing in, it resembles a singletrack a lot more then a fireroad. There are some parts that require some skill to climb and with the pitch being what it is, it takes a lot to do this one. Dean acted like it was no biggy and cleaned the few sections I walked (the show off). Dean has all the stats for the ride as far as distance and total elevation is concerned but I think we only did like a quarter of the total trail. I've done it before and it's no walk in the park.

Temps were a little on the chilly side, but we still managed to work up a sweat and the snow was getting deeper and making it a little more difficult to ride.

The ride down was really fun. With just cruising along this mofo is very steep so you pick up speed in no time. Dean found out first hand when his front tire blew and sent him down into the dirt. Really munched his helmet good.

I wouldn't make a steady diet of this trail, but I will be back again to try to conquer a little more.
