Default Kern River Valley Gathering 2009

Kern River Valley Gathering 2009
October 30 - November 1, 2009

Bionicon may have lost a building and a bunch of bikes, but we haven't lost our sense of a good time and good people. So come and join us for some great fall riding in Southern California! This is the third annual gathering.

Located in and around the Scenic Kern River Valley, just three hours drive from Los Angeles. The valley is home to many incredible trails such as the Cannell Trail, Just Outstanding, Dutch Flat and the Kern Canyon trail, just to name a few. There are trails for any type of rider here but the area is best know for its moderate to challenging all mountain trails.

Bionicon will be hosting a free BBQ to all participants and we expect to have a limited number of demo bikes available to test on any of the rides.

Please RSVP for the BBQ with the number of guests and request Carnivore or Herbivore fare so there is enough food for everyone.

BBQ RSVP at http://www.socaltrailriders.org/foru...day=2009-10-30 or by emailing bbq@bioniconusa.com.

This very fun event is organized by riders for riders, is very low key and all about the fun of riding in cool new places with cool new people and old friends. If you have questions, would like to lead a ride or help in any way please contact paul@bioniconusa.com

Scheduled Rides and Events: schedule updates at - www.bioniconusa.com

Friday 10/30 - 11am
- Rider organized rides, and we'll discuss it in the forums. Local options include the Keyesville Classic loop, a shuttle to Shirley Meadows.

Saturday 10/31 - 8am - Cannel Trail, MRA shuttle leaving from Kernville. We're recommending that you use the MRA shuttle service for the sake of convenience. You must book this yourself, info at http://www.mtnriver.com/bike.htm. Or you can organize your own shuttle.

Saturday 10/31 - 6pm
- Bionicon Sponsored BBQ and party at the Keyesville staging area. Halloween costumes optional. video and photo presentations are being planned by some of the riders.

Sunday 11/01 -
Set your clocks back for Daylight Savings, then - 9am - Just Outstanding to Dutch Flat Ride, rider organized shuttle to Shirley Meadows leaving from Keyesville

Location:
The Kern Valley is located on state Highway 178 between Hwy 14 and Bakersfield and is approximately a 3 hour drive from the LA area. Take Hwy 14 north to Hwy 178 west towards Lake Isabella, exit Hwy 155 north, approximately 1 mile, cross the river and turn left into the Keyesville Recreation Area.

Google Maps Directions to Keyesville

Accommodations: Keyesville Recreation Area has FREE Primitive Open camping. You need to be self-contained, but there is a forestry style outhouse (BYO TP!). If you would like to stay in a motel there are plenty in the area, visit www.kernrivervalley.com for more info.

The weather forecast for the weekend is looking pretty good. Clear and sunny, but on the cooler side with highs in the upper 60's and low 70's.

MRA needs a minimum of 6 people to run their shuttle, so those planning to go should call and get signed up today or tomorrow so we meet the minimum. More info on the shuttle at http://www.mtnriver.com/mountain_biking_shuttles.htm. Call MRA at 800-861-6553 to reserve your spot for Saturday morning.

Should be a great time. Recent reports have said that Cannell is in the best shape ever right now.

If you do, RSVP for the barbecue so Paul knows how many to shop for. I haven't asked what the menu will be, but in the past it has been brats and burgers for the carnivors and vege burgers for the herbivores.

Also for the Cannell shuttle. it seem everyone is waiting for everyone else, since a minimum of 6 is needed to run the shuttle.

Cheers

Last year I rode a demo Edison. It rocked! They even shimmed my all mountain post so I could use it on the Cannell. Nothing like a good demo on a great trail.

I am planning on riding on Sat and Sunday.

We are planning our own shuttle for the Cannel.

[FONT=Arial][SIZE=2] The weather has been awsome there is some snow in the high country but lots of the trails are still good to go. But it looks like we have a few storms coming next week which could close out the high country till early summer.

The low elevation stuff is great all winter long.

On a related note there is a trail work day coming up:

SSFTA TEAMS UP WITH STEWARDS ON KERN CANYON TRAIL
Do you love the Kern Canyon trail. Then come out as Stewards work alongside the Southern Sierra Fat Tire Association Mountain Bike Club on 1/9/2010
