I did it from Big Bear with the ESRI crew maybe 10 years ago. I ran into a jeep and cracked my frame. I ended up finishing the ride on someone else's bike after they landed chest first on a large boulder and decided to take the sag home. That year we had permission to go over the dam and out that way. I think the SART from South Fork is more fun and a better ride. Have a great time.

There are a lot of us riding. I don't think that there are many from 10 years ago. But there have been a lot of us that have been the last 5-6 years. There will probably be 10-20 from work on the ride.

BTW: The ride is not sanctioned by ESRI it's open to anyone who would like to join in.

This is a challenging ride for most people. There are options for ducking out early after lunch down to Loch Leven if it's too long. Also there will be extra credit up to Morton Peak. I think it should be about 2500-3000 gain for the 'easy' route, around 3000 for the medium route and 3600ish for the route up Morton Peak.

funny.... my idea of a SART hell ride starts at the bottom, climbs up to Big Bear and then goes back down.

Haha, true enough. We have to keep this open for all abilities and for some this will be more than enough to qualify for a 'hellride'.

Mark and I love the lactic acid build up.

I think Mark would agree that it makes a cold beer taste better; not that I would know.

Well since I can't go on this ride...I decided to ride a little of it for fun today Russell.

Rode from the house in Redlands up thru Crafton Hills to Zanja Peak. Heres the house from the top.
    craftonfromthepeak.JPG

While at the top I thought "Hey Morton would be fun too" It's up there.
    zanjapeak.JPG

Dropped down to the Mill Creek wash singletrack...rode up 38 and slogged up to the top of Morton. You can see Zanja pretty good from there!

Yep tower is still standing from the night ride up here earlier in the week.
    mortontower.JPG

Cruised down since I was solo...hunting season is open now and I didn't want to spook any dudes with weaponry. Awesome day out though...a bit hazy for pix but nice temp.

30+ miles from my driveway...3600+ft up, The lower section of SART is in great shape...If you guys ride the Morton Part it will be a blast.

Sounds like a good time to me.

I was just out there on Friday. Steve (Kanga) and I started at Lock Leven and rode the fireroad to Angeles Oaks and then SART to Glass Rd. We returned on SART then fireroad to AO. We then got back on SART down to Morton Peak. We couldn't find the last two sections of singletrack so we rode the fireroad. All in all it was 38.6 miles of riding and 5,881 feet of gain. It was a great day.

If my schedule allows I will try to make this ride (in my ESRI jersey).

I'll put it in my list.
Depends on the weather, I don't usually perform well in the cold.

Things are coming together pretty well. I think between STR, other coworkers and past participants the ride is sitting around 40 people though not all are confirmed. I am really looking forward to the ride.

Going to be a project getting all up the hill to Southfork then the cars back down. We need a Hellride tour bus...

If I'm not lost or getting bushwacked, the trail was too easy.

Haha it's going to be a bit of a logistical issue I am sure. I am going to try to get some email address from STR folks who have RSVP'd and try to coordinate with everyone to try to maximize the number of people we can cram into cars for the way up. That way we need fewer cars to go pick up shuttle vehicles and more people can stay at Uncle Howies to have fun (aka eat pizza and drinking beer).

I know that a number of my co-workers can carry between 4-7 bikes per vehicle so that should help.

Also, a little update on the length of the ride, it will likely be closer to 30 miles on dirt with another few miles on pavement, it will all be dependent on the routes that everyone decides to take.
