Default Holy Jim -> Main Divide -> Trabuco (12/3)

Holy Jim -> Main Divide -> Trabuco

Start: 8am. Meet @ the intersection of Trabuco Canyon Road/Trabuco Creek Road (click link for directions Google Maps)
Length: Depending on start location
  • 18 miles (If someone is willing to drive 4.5 miles on dirt road to the trailhead)
  • 26 miles (If we start at the intersection of Trabuco Canyon Rd/Trabuco Creek Rd)
Approximate Riding time: 4-5 hours
Technical difficulty: Intermediate+. Expect plenty of climbing, but the descent is worth it.
Trail surface: Mostly fireroad. Holy Jim and Trabuco are the only singletrack.
What bike to bring: Gears + suspension = enjoyable ride; SS = glutton for pain
Hazards: Poison oak lines the trail that leads to Holy Jim.
Fees: None, if you park at Trabuco Canyon Rd/Trabuco Creek Rd. Forest Adventure Pass required at the parking lot at the end of the dirt road.

You've done Blackstar. You've done Maple Springs. Now it's time to do the rest of Vision Quest (or at least a slight variation of it). The weather outlook for this weekend looks "climbing friendly"...so no excuses...right? The ride will be flexible for change...so if for some odd reason you want to do Holy Jim -> Upper Holy Jim -> Main Divide -> Trabuco; or maybe just Holy Jim, we'll play it by ear. But first things first....who's coming along?

I have done this ride before and I enjoyed it. Let me talk to my buddy and see if he wants to do it again

I'm probably in for this although I'd like to do the Upper Holy Jim and Holy Jim descents.
If you park just off the road on the dirt you risk having your car pelted with gravel by the trucks that peel out off the dirt and onto the road. I either park at Trabuco post office alongside O'Neill Park or just off Plano Trabuco.

Parking at the pavement then hike-a-biking up WHT to MD to Trabuco.

The two best options are Joshua Drive (Do a google maps search for Joshua Dr, Trabuco Canyon, CA 92679). Just park on the right alongside Trabuco Highlands apartment complex. You have to ride up and down a small hill from here to get to the trail head.

The other option is Trabuco Post office. If you're coming from El Toro Road or Santiago Canyon road then turn onto Live Oak Canyon at Cooks Corner then once the road levels out after the O'Neil park entrance (on the right) you'll see a car park entrance on the left 300yds later. Park there. If you see the firestation on the right then you've gone too far. Be careful on that road as people drive way too fast on it (I'm one of them!)
(Address is 30595 TRABUCO CYN, 92679-0003 if you want to do a Google maps search.)

Is everyone wanting to do main divide to Trabuco?
I was hoping to practise the downhill half of the CC - maybe nip up to the top of Santiago if there's time

Damn, looks like I missed out on the Dale taxi cab to the back trailhead Gouge, you sure you don't want to rally your Celica back there?

We could conceivably squeeze in a 5th, but you'd be straddling the rear jump seats the whole way back--not the ideal precursor to 18+ miles in the saddle. Ouch.

Can make it happen if you want, though. Your call.
