Good work Brian. Step back in time 100 years....pack train...stay at 113 year old Camp Sturtevant cabins... way cool.

November 5th is a full moon...might be very nice to spend the night on the mountain. On a clear night the views from Mt Wilson down on the city lights below are incredable.

I will be coordinating the November 5th CORBA event on the trail. The ANF is coordinating the overnight stay at Sturtevant. Hope people can make at least one of the events. We had 10 people on October 15th. Still have at least .75 miles to go to the top. We are only able to get about .2 miles or less of vegetation clearing each event. See link for pictures of the trailers we used last time to haul in the tools. Lots of fun! http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=230029

The event this past Sunday was a bit of a bust from a CORBA stand point. I was the only person working out there for several hours. dstepper thankfully showed up a bit after noon, and gave me my second wind. Big thanks to Dean for his all his help and moral support. It was really friggin' hot out there. I managed to get the trailer with two bow saws, one Pulaski, and two McLeods about .5 miles up the Zion Trail. Due to the heat and the small numbers we were only able to work one 50 yard section of trail. The work we did was first rate but the distance was small. I hope to get more people out next month. I know there were several events going on Sunday that prevented people from attending that wanted to.

Luckily for the Mt. Zion Trail much progress was made by the people working the event put on by the ANF. They had several volunteers and a fire crew, which had a chainsaw. I didn't get a chance to see it myself but I hear the fire crew worked the trail all the way from Sturtevant Trail, over the peak, and about 100-200 yards shy of where we stopped on 10/15.

A bit more vegetation work and the trail should be pretty much open. There are still many areas that need tread work, both repairing blown out sections and winding the trail.

The next event is scheduled for 12/3, the day after my 30th Birthday. It would be a great birthday present to have a great turn out. As always please shoot me an email, reply to this post, or PM if you are going to attend. I've got make sure we have tools for everyone.

Hey there STR. This weekend is the first Sunday of the month, what does that mean....CORBA trail work in the Angeles National Forest. What better way to give back and earn some community service karma points and get your ride on in a truly great area. I'm not talking about any newbie riding, we're talking narrow singletrack, rocks, switchbacks, exposure, streams, you name it this trails got it.

Hope to see some of you out there.

Matt, pretty straight forward. Park at the parking area Chanrty Flats, if parking is gone, talk to Forestry employees, they will let you park in their lot. Take the road behind the Forestry Fire Station, not the road the goes to the Pack Station/Store. Climb the pavement for maybe 1/2 mile and you will see a Trailhead for Upper Winter Creek on your right. Follow UWC (2.2 miles) until you drop down into the creek near Hoegees, don't take UWC to the left up the mountain. Cross the creek and you will find Trailhead for Mt. Zion / Lower Winter Creek, take the left up the hill (Mt. Zion Trail). You will find us up maybe one mile up. It is another .4 miles to the top, then another mile to Camp Sturtevant.

After trail work I plan on going up to the camp and coming back down Sturtevant/Gabrileno to the parking area.

Gate at the end of Santa Anita Ave should be open by 7am...not that i will be there that early. Sometimes they are a little late in opening it.

Not much to report. Epic Riders and OTB (Over the Bars) Clubs were there...maybe a dozen people...much work got done.

I got there about 9:15 and I though everyone had gone up then Matt (Burner) showed up so we rode up together. All I can tell you is that the downhill on the other side of Zion is well worth the suffering getting over Mt. Zion. The section from the top of Mt. Zion down to Sturtvant has some narrow loose scary sections. Scott seems to like it but if cann't think of anything he does not like. Here is a couple of pics.

Mike, Glen tells me you cleaned the one section in the picture. The one with my bike and the log. Good job, I knew if anyone could do it, it would be you.

He did. I was amazed. He kinda slid the back wheel a little but he didn't have to duck.

Dean, I posted RR in the Trail Talk forum. You want to put yours in there?

It was easy, but even I had to duck (a little) don't you like the way they cut that groove in there for my handlebars would fit?

This coming Sunday, January 7th, is the first Sunday of the month, which means another CORBA trail maintenance event on the Mt. Zion Trail.

Please come out and show your support. This is the last scheduled event for this trail. Thanks to everyone's hard work the Mt. Zion Trail is almost finished. The events are fun and very rewarding, plus you get to ride some darn fine singletrack.

See original post at the top for all the details.
