This spring I did Strawberry Loop on My Niner. I wished I was running 32x22 instead of the 32x20. I walked alot doing up Josephine Fireroad Climb, after the saddle it was all good...FoShizzle SSed that puppy out without a problem.
I am not in very good SS shape right now, I got lazy in the Summer, because I hate the heat, I stopped pushing myself, and I have been on the 5-Spot alot lately. I will go but have to think about what bike to bring. Strawberry is fun and it has been a month or two since I have rode it. Please...not too early, give us from South Orange County time to get there. Dean

The way you're riding that freekin road bike you'll be faster then greased lightening going up there.I vote for 8:30 or 9.

It's brown, sorta gritty and you remember when they invented it, I think.
Damn, dude, but you're right. I haven't ridden dirt since Aliso about three or four weeks ago. So, I am TOTALLY looking forward to this. My wife promised me I could go. You know, if you have to take a ride, this is a good one to go on. I wanted to go with you guys out by SART last weekend, but things are just too busy.

Couple of pics from April 06. #1, The fireroad climb, #2 East side of Strawberry Peak. Per my GPS: 18.35 miles. 3665ft elevation gain. This is a classic ride, if you have not done it you should.

it truly is an amazing ride....the fireroad climb is no big deal really plus, its not a race out there and you get it over with in the beginning which is nice.
as Dean eludes to, the exposure is "interesting". It psychologically does a number on me personally. I walk many sections that without the exposure I would not even think about slowing down on. It is a phenomenal ride. I sure hope I can make it..... |

If you ride it backwards you won't believe the shiat you'll see. It has a "pucker factor" of about 7+ (anything higher then this I walk). Riding it the regular way, doesn't bother me, but now that I've done it in reverse I have a whole new respect for this trail.
I'll be on my Surly ss, crying all the way up. Who's bringing the cheese to go with my whine?

On my first time out there I rode up Josephine to Strawberry Potrero. Due to the snow I lost the trail at the old picnic table and turned around. Next time I came into the Strawberry Potrero, I rode in from Colby Bridge out of Big Tujunga Canyon and turned around. Then I rode in from Red Box to Strawberry Potrero and out. I have yet to drop down Colby Canyon.
I like the normal clockwise loop, it seems to be the easest way to get the best reward for climbing. Except maybe that climb back out of Switzers at the end of the ride.

Hey guys I rode this 2 weeks ago.
The trail is primo all the way down to switzers. Park at Switzers and climb out and up to the loop, watch out for the up hill swing ups on gabrieleno the dirt is soft on the downside, I washed out and bashed be knee good. Off the bike for 2 weeks. Have fun , Ill be waterskiing that day.
