Default RR: Hurkey Creek, Idllywild, Alvin Meadows

Not much of a RR, I will let the pics do the talking...besides, I am tried.

Thanks to the riders that came out to ride with us, Scott, Mike, Raul, Tris, and Don.

Spent the weekend camping at Hurkey Creek and riding the surrounding areas. I rode maybe half the 24-Hour course; there was other stuff in the area that interested me more. The campground was full of riders camping and pre-riding the 24-hour course…lots of riders out there on the trails after dark. Also ran into Matt (OC Rider) and a dozen other riders from MTBR…good fun, good weekend.

The pictures are a combination of two days of riding on numerous trails, Alvin Meadows area, Idyllwild area and Hurkey Creek area. The highlight of the ride was the Humber to Hurkey downhill…nice long downhill with a punishing, 3-mile uphill in the middle.

That Saturday ride was one of the best of the year for me. I LOVED THAT RIDE!!!

My fork took a dump. I'm sending it back to Fox tomorrow, and I sure wish I could of joined you guys for the second day. I did end up doing a long day on the road bike. We did the SART, but the ladies finished with more miles then me. They ended up with 104 miles (they parked farther away then me) and I logged 88. It was a little toasty by the time we hit Anaheim and downright HOT by the time we hit Corona.

See you guys next weekend.

add me as well. i had to send my fork 3 times already due to some creaking on the crown. they replaced it but it'll break again after 2 months, finally got tired of sending back so i just started ignoring with the creaks.

the turnaround time is also horrible this summer, took em 1 month and 2 week to send me back my fork.

Yeah, I'm about 95% on my way to buying A PIKE, but I'm trying to get a deal. I'll put the TALAS on my ss.

Thumbs up

Just curious how badly you are taking care of and setting up your shox? Set them up for the conditions that you are planning to ride. I use Fox on my bike, on baja, and when can. Just a personal preference.

Check the reviews on mtbr if you think those of us here don't know what we're doing. Fox has serious issues with creaking crowns, etc on their forks. Perhaps it depends on how hard they're ridden but a 5" fork shouldn't be confined to the bike path. To their credit, Fox had my fork back to me in a week with all new upper assy. After OCRiders CS horror story I'm not so sure I'd be in line to spend a G on a Lyric or Totem.

My first Talas I had four years with no problems, and then it broke. They called me to ask what happened as everything inside was either bent or broken. I told them the truth that I was on a technical trail (Mt Wilson) and I was riding hard. When I looked down I noticed a lot of oil coming out from the top. I continued to ride and by the time I got to the bottom of the trail the fork wouldn't work at all. They told me it wasn't under warranty, but they'd do what they could for me. They sent it back two weeks later completely rebuilt and no cost, not even the shipping. That fork is still going strong. But the new one isn't 3 months old and it just quit. It took a while, but I have it dialed in just like my other and by their book my setting's are well within their recommended settings.
