Default Riding in the LA area tomorrow?

I'll be staying with some friends in the echo park area tonight I was wondering if anyone up around there might want to get a ride in Friday and show me around. I've never ridden up there so It'd be a fun to ride new trails. Thanx-trinidad

What kind of ride are you looking for? Fast, slow, short, long, fire road, singletrack, 4,000' of climbing, snow, skecthy stuff. How much time do you have? Let us know.

I'm interested in getting out tomorrow morning as well.

Let's see...I'd say 2-4 hrs. of saddle time. Lot's of fun single track and some okay climbs. I'm not a fast rider, just have to get on the road back by about 3pm so I can get to work in Newport by 5:30.

you will have a hard time getting off the saddle once you start riding

I'd be intersted in Climbing from JPL up the Gabrielino to Switzers or riding the Chantry flats area.

The JPL climb is not too bad. But it is mostly climbing to get there and there is a lot of water(water does not bother me at all-ask Pirannha). This is mostly singletrack with a lot of climbing, but the place is absolutley awesome!

Upper Winter Creek/Zion loop or a upper winter creek, lower winter creek up Gabrielino to Spruce Grove and back. This should easily be within 3-4 hours and the climbing isn't too bad. Who knows, maybe some of the other regulars might show.

Joe Truth, Chupacabra, Simon, Mtbmaven, Prianna, Rossage anybody else....

Does climbing jpl mean we get to go down it? Always wanted to ride in the area.

YES!!!

However the faster more fun and flowing technical stuff that you're thinking of is higher up, let's say from Redbox to Switzers Fall. Going up that way would be an adventure for sure! Especially with snow. But that does not fit into my schedule. In the interst of time and maximum flow I'd recommend Chantry(Many options here)or Middle Merrils, Sunset Ridge, El Prieto is a good one too.

The JPL and Chantry rides are colder, darker and wetter than the Merrils/Sunset ride.

Let me know what youre interested in. I'd be ready to roll by 8:30-9:00am.

You're the local, lead the way and I'll follow. I don't have a whole lot of cold weather riding clothes though. I'm usually very good at getting up early when I'm not staying at home but 9 would be best.

Chantry Flats it is!

To get there from Echo Park,

Take the 2fwy North bound to the East bound 210.

Take the East bound 210 and exit at Santa Anita Ave. in Arcadia.

Turn Left and go north on Santa Anita.

Take Santa Anita all the way until it ends and continue past the Forest service gate(open).

Take this road all the way up until you arrive at the Chantry parking lot.

I'll be there just before 9:00am. We should be done by 1-2:00pm at the latest. Call me if your're running late, if I do not see or hear from you by 9:30 I'll assume you're not coming and I'll be on the trail! FYI, there is no Cell Phone coverage in the Chantry Parking lot area so If you call after 8:40, I may not get your call.

I've pm'ed you my contact information. Anyone else coming along let us know or just show up.

Cool, I'll set an alarm and call you when I get up. Do you think 30 mins. is a fair estimate of driving time or do I need more?

Not really sure abou the traffic pattern at that hour in the morning. I do think 30-35 minutes drive time should be about right. I would suggest leaving at or about 8:20am.

Correction on directions,

Take the 2 fwy to the EB 134 to EB 210fwy. exit at Santa Anita....

If you're going to Chantry don't forget that you'll need an Adventure Pass to park up there...

Have fun, should be awesome riding up there tomorrow!

Well a $40 ticket would suck, especially when the daily passes go for only $5 and a year pass running at about $30.

Seriously dude, never got a "ticket" in the mail for like 8 plus years now. Has something changed? If it has, I've not seen it. Just say no to double taxation and wasteful govt spending.

Yep, that would likely be fine.
