Default Chilao Flat

Has anyone here ridden Chilao Flats? I am riding this tomorrow with a coworker of mine and wanted to get a heads up. He has been there before but I wanted to see if anyone here has, thoughts on the trail?

Thanks

Jordan

One of the better loops around. The Mt. Hilyer boulder field is a ton of fun. Elevation not too high maybe 5,0000 ft. so it can get warm there. One short nasty climb, over all it is one of the flatest rides I do in the San Gabriels. My friend likes to bring his 6-Pack on that ride.

Doing the Three Peaks Loop (Brown, Vetter, Hilyer) or just Chilao?

Everytime I go out there we ride it a different way.

Have fun and take pics. I have been tring to get some of the other So-Cal Riders up there. If you like that trail we are riding The Burkhart Trail this Sunday.

I've rode it many times. It is one of my favorites. Like Dean said, no real hard climbs and ss friendly even for us mere mortals. It is semi technical and has a number of lines thru different areas. Lots of guys use pads for the downhill section. I like to, but usually forget. Also all kinds of different trail options. My favorite would be the figure 8 that includes 3 points. Last time up (about 6 weeks ago) it was getting to sandy, but chances are it has seen some rain since then. I like wide tires for this ride as the climbs are easy and the downhill can really get fast. You'll also have the pleasure of descending down the Silver Moccasin Trail, which almost makes the trip worthwhile in itself. This part is technical and still, after all these years I've never cleaned it 100%. Others I know have, so I know it's possible. Good luck and have fun. We will be a few miles up ahead of you guys.
