Default Thurs Mornin Aliso Ride

I'm getting my DHX back from PUSH tomorrow so I'll be itchin to test it out at Aliso the next morning. I'll be at Canyon Vistas entrance (aka MILF Park) @ 7 am if anyone wants to join me. My route will be 5 Oaks, Cholla, Rock it, Coyote, Cholla, Lynx.

Rob, I'd be real interested in your take on the DHX being pushed. I sent mine back to Fox for repair, but I'm still thinking of getting it Pushed.

My buddy Dean loaned me his Romic. I've only had one ride on it so far and really didn't take it down anything to extreme, but what I did use it on I liked it better then the DHX. More responsive and a lot more predictable. The cush seems a little bit better too. I'm going to try a couple more rides with it and see if it makes me as happy as I am now.

Does anyone know why Turner & Romic didn't keep going together? Seems like a good thing to me.

Rob's DHX is the coil version. Push does not offer a DHX-air service that I'm aware of. FWIW, I think the DHX-Air works great on the 5 Spot.

I did ride Aldo's Spot with the Romic though and was impressed with how plush it was. Aldo must not agree as he just bought a DHX Air.

Well I'm assuming you mean the DHX air on your 5 Spot right? PUSH only modifies the DHX coil shock and not the air version. What went wrong with your shock that you had to send it in for repair?

Anyway, I think if you're seeing such a big improvement by switching to a Romic then you may need to tinker more with the air pressure settings on your DHX air. I'm pretty damn picky when it comes to my suspension set up and I am very happy with the DHX air on my 5 Spot. I ran the DHX air on my 6 Pack initially and never really was happy with it, switched to the coil and felt a definate improvement especially at high speeds. However the Spot/DHX air combo feels very good to me. The difference in leverage ratio is what makes the air a bad choice for the 6 Pack and a good one for the Spot....especially if you huck things like me. What are your gripes/or main differences you notice between running the air vs. coil? The DHX air has a lot of adjustments, perhaps you just need to take more time to try and fine tune it to your liking. Not saying the Romic is a bad shock, but the weight difference is substantial and I think the DHX could probably be tuned to your liking a bit more.

You're probably right about dialing it in. I don't think the shock worked right from day one, but being unfamiliar with it, I thought it might just take some tuning. I was able to fiddle with it up till we hit the Plunge and on that day the Propedal stopped working (as in the knob became stuck). I was forced at that time to put in more air then I typically like. This did start the shock to working again, but I lost all other functions with the adjustments. On my other Turner I have the old RLC, which was a very good shock, but it was only a 3" travel bike and the settings were relatively easy to dial in. So far I've only had the Romic on some fast stutter bumps and some small rock gardens. I found a few other things to ride off, and the Romic sucked them up better then either of my Fox shocks did. I'm hoping I just had a faulty shock and after I get my DHX back it will be a new experience for me.

Are you under a time crunch at all Rob? I know you're a pretty fast climber, but would like to join anyhow.

On a side note, MILF park was sure alive and well today around 6:00pm or so. Dell, Lance and I saw some nice looking ladies jogging that definetely could have used a double sports-bra. Nice.

Back in 2003 Romic had some problems with leaky shocks and got trashed on the boards. That shock you borrowed is 3 years old and has never been serviced...guess it has about 8,000 miles on it. I do find my DHX Coil a better shock but I think I would have liked the Romic more with a heavier spring.

I do have to be back at work by 9am, but I usually am back to my car by 8:30 so I have some time to spare. I've been having some issues with my legs lately (waiting for some blood test results) so I haven't exactly been climbing like myself lately.....you're more than welcome to join, just be ready to roll shortly after 7 and we'll be fine. If time becomes an issue we could always skip Lynx at the end, but it shouldn't be a factor.

C
romic was o.k., but a little stiff. IMO, DHX Air is a much better shock. i'm stoked....

Rob,

Sorry I ddin't get back to you last night. I ended up having a meeting this morning.

Where's the ride report? I can't seem to find the review on mtbr either. I'm interested to see what you had done.

Right, I found it here after a little searching:
