Default Beginner trails

Alright guys/gals I searched through the forum, and in the 909 it looks like the trails rated in the beginners reach are Marshal Canyon, Bonelli Park, Claremont Wilderness park, and Southridge. Are there any I missed?

And while I started a thread might as well ask how long do the Incycle Monday night rides last usually? And one last thing before going back to my homework .

Anyone up for a beginners paced ride at Marshall Canyon or elsewhere Sat. 10th or Sun. 11th?

I know that these rides have been rated beginner, but that really is a matter of opinion. There are so many variables that play into what a beginner is. Anyhow, I would rate Bonelli and Claremont the easiest out of these 4. Bonelli has pavement around the entire lake, surrounded by different trails, so "bailing out" onto the pavement is an option at almost any point. Claremont is easier overall than Marshall, however, hardly any trees to keep you cool. Marshall starts out easy and steadily gets steeper, and it is basically an out and back, which means you climb up and up, turn around, and come down. Southridge can be difficult to find the trail/course if you've never ridden there. Besides that, after the National being held there, trails are pretty blown out. Don't get me wrong, Southridge is fun, you just might want to wait for cooler weather and a little rain before going if you are a beginner. Then again, I am not Dirttorpedo, so this is not a professional opinion by any means.

Ran into the Incycle ride tonight at the bottom of Marshall as they ended and we guessed it was around 8:30. You can also try going up Cobal/Burbank at CWP and come out Marshall and take the Thomson Creek Trail back to the parking lot....about 12 miles ?? After the Burbank climb it's mostly downhill with some fun single track (Marshall) to paved roads back. Just made it home since I rode from my house....it was the maiden ride for my new Blur LT...freakin' saweeet !! What a difference. Control...climbing...all around GREAT bike!!!
Hope to see ya on the trails

Maybe too far to drive for you, but Chino Hills is a good beginner ride from the Carbon Canyon entrance. Telegraph Canyon Rd climbs 800 ft in 5 miles, which is easy enough for almost anyone with the will to try. The last 3-4 miles have a lot of trees, so it is reasonably cool except mid day. Once that is mastered there are plenty of challenging routes to add in. Also easy rides starting from the main entrance off Soquel Canyon and the 71 Fwy. For a small (I think) fee, you can drive into the park and avoid the only big hill on that end. Then proceed out Lower Aliso Canyon fire road, which is reasonably flat with a few challenges along the way. One caution: The singletrack trails get really overgrown every spring and summer until trail maintenance is done. But the fire roads are good. Here is a link to the park site with directions and trail maps. http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=648.

Sharky was nce enough to let me ride around her new bike while we waited at the bottom of Marshall. Very sweet ride!

The ride today ended around 8 before it got dark since there were a few of us w/ out lights. There's also a Thursday ride in Marshall that starts around 5:15-5:30 and ends around the same time. Everyone stops and re-groups along the way so nobody gets left behind.

I'll second the vote for Chino Hills, I often forget about riding there since so many of my rides are last minute and I can ride to Marshall or Bonelli from home.

Sharky, I can't believe we didn't take pics when you picked her up on Saturday....what were we thinking? Next opportunity for sure. Did you get that chain skipping fixed? Glad to hear you finally got your virgin ride on. Sorry I missed it.

Dirttorpeedo and I opted not to ride MCyn last night so that we could work on my bike. We later hooked up with some of the riders @ Red Robin and heard one of the riders got lost Not a good thing. Luckily all turned out ok but probably would have been better at some point of the dh to regroup and make sure everyone was accounted for. Neways it sounds like everyone had fun.

Hey Sharky, the rider who got lost has riden there many times. Not sure what happened there. We sent Brian to look for him since he was the only one with a light, next thing we know the guy is riding up from behind us up Marshall. I waited for my neighbor Alex on the DH on diff sections since he was riding a hardtail but otherwise that was the only mishap we had on a fun ride.

I was just razzin' ya my friend!! It was pretty funny when he rode up and had to go searching for Brian. Seriously was just teasin' since Cathy mentioned it....there's really no getting lost there...for the most part ya end up back as he did As always you take good care of all the riders as you did by sending Brian back up !!!
BTW....hope to run into you guys again Thursday. Can't start till after 6 again so will do my usual loop I guess??
