Default Beginner's type ride Sat. May 20th? or Sun. May 21st?

I'd like to get a ride going for either of these days, Saturday being the preference. I'd like to go somewhere kinda local, too. Marshall, Chino Hills, Southridge <shiver>, something else? The ride itself could be challenging, but the pace would probably have to be slow to moderate. Mileage probably less than 20, though that could vary with climbing.

Personally, I haven't been to Chino Hills in a few months and wouldn't mind checking it out. Or, something in the San Dimas-Monrovia area could be cool, but I don't know that area. What about San Sevaine or Cucamonga Cyn.? Haven't been up there much either, despite it being in my backyard.

I know Epic Mountain Biker has talked about setting up a Marshall ride for the 27th so I don't want to steal his thunder, but I wouldn't mind doing that place two weeks in a row.

Any takers? Any ideas?

I think San Sevaine / Cucamonga Canyon may be way too tough for beginners, since the the begining of the ride involves a steep climb. Plus there's not a lot of opportunity for shade. That's why i mentioned the Marshall Canyon ride for the 27th, plenty of shade there.

Taking newb's up San Sevaine would probably only serve to turn them off to mountain biking. Your choices are good with my suggestion to do Marshall as it's beautiful right now and there is some shade as you ride the lower part.
I'll either be in Davis doing a double Century or I'm going to Moab for a week, otherwise I'd join you guys.

Just a suggestion.....I've gotten alot of my friends into mountain biking by taking them to Monroe Truck Trail in Glendora. There's actually a path up the stream bed now. Not a very challenging climb, but there is a nice section of downhill of the Mystic Canyon side. After you get out of the stream bed there isn't much shade though. More of an early morning ride.

Hey guys, what about doing a Bonelli Park ride early Sat. The climbs are not challenging and we can get a good 12 mile ride out of it.

Isn't every place overgrown? If you wanna see overgrown check out Turnbull. I shouldn't even be making suggestions on places to ride, I'm not even going to be in town this weekend to ride.

What, beginners can't wear sunscreen and drink plenty of water? Admittedly, I don't know the San Sevaine/Cucamonga Cyn. area so you might be right. How steep? Worse than Potato Mtn?

I'm not opposed to that.

I got an alternate suggestion from Innes, an Alta Loma rider that comes around here some, that her group is starting in the Claremont Wilderness Park, riding up and into Marshall and then back. That's not too strenuous and I bet it's around 12 miles or so.

But, we can still talk about it. All I want to do is have fun. I haven't ridden at Bonelli in a looooong time so that could be interesting. All I remember was that climb along the freeway that had all this loose shale and I had to walk it.

Hey, Steven, I know you're not a beginner, but maybe you could meet up with us and show how to throw down monster hucks. There's lots of dogs and high schoolers in the area. Maybe you could graduate from ducks!

If there is still a ride on the 27th I might be able to make it. But will Marshall Canyon be doable on an old IronHorse hardtail no susp. or old Gaint hardtail no susp. untill I can put together the cash for a new bike?

Marshall was made for hardtails, really no reason to have much suspension there at all. I love taking the ss there.

Hey Gurp,
Post the Saturday ride. Either CWP to Marshall or Bonelli works either way. Both trails are hardtail friendly for beginners. For Bonelli we can just meet at Incycle and ride up from there.

Hardtail is fine. We'll go slow and I don't bomb down anything. Mtbracer36 might do a little bombing but he can wait for us at the bottom.
