When you call in to reserve a seat on the shuttle use reservation #3183. As of this AM there are 7 seats left.

FWIW, if nobody tells me I can't go, I'm in. I watched several videos of this. It doesn't look to be "expert" level. My understanding is that if you have the endurance to go downhill for an hour, you can handle it. Am I wrong? I don't want to hold anybody back or ruin a great ride for someone? I ride a little slow because I like to ride under control. Pain Freak, you've seen me ride now, is this ride over my head? 'Cause it looks awesome and I'd be bummed to miss it. Plus, my wife already said okay.

gurp, of course you can come, since I have never rode with you I will let Mike answer if you are ready.
I have not been on this trail so it is new to me. I am a slow cautious rider so I do not think you will be holding me up.

I got a cabin. We are in #2. I will probably offer up some floor space, but the beds have already been bought. Some others might consider renting a cabin. The price for a two bedroom is 145 a night, but split over 2 nights between 3 guys it would only be 100. And if there's guys who are willing to use a sleeping bag and sleep on the floor they could get in at half price and this would only lower the price more.Say the guys on the floor pay 40 for two nights then the others would have to pay 60 and that's pretty cheap for everyone.

Hopefully that's still possible. But, I think carpooling is a good idea. I'll chip in for gas, of course. ![]()

I plan on riding Saturday. I do not like heat so I am thinking about something at elevation, Scott (STJunkie) and I have talked about going up to Kennedy Meadows, don't ask about the ride as I know nothing, that is why Scott and Mike are our guides. If we fill up one van, MRA said they can get another van, but want 10 reserved seats before they would offer it to us.

do you happen to know if there is another shuttle company up there besides Mountain River Adventures? I was hoping to do this on Saturday to, but I had just re-read the part where their shuttles are booked on Saturday... thanks for setting this up! |

My friends that live up there just got back to me today (they were in Vegas riding, the nerve of those guys
) Anyways we may be able to shuttle using his trailer again if MRA gets full or there are other problems. All he asks is that guys chip in for gas and for someone to give him a lift back up. Still will probably be around 20 bucks a head, but if we can get reserved seats it would be better then they can just take their vehicles up and it's a lot cheaper and faster. They did also offer to take us to ride Badger Pass which is also one of the premier rides up ther, but I haven't rode it yet, so I'd like to try that. I have done Kennedy Meadows and I have to admit it is Beautiful, but the riding is in my opinion okay. Lots of moto trails, but fully rideable. They did a ride last week at over 7K so the snow is melting, but the river level is breaking records with the amount of water coming down.I have 2 more floor spaces available if anybody wants them for 40 dollars each. Bring your own towels.

I'm definitely in on this one. We were up there last Oct. for the Fat Tire Festival. I highly recommend the festival to you guys. As for MRA, I think they are the only company up there running shuttles. Make sure to bring some foam pads or some sort of padding for your bike because if MRA uses their flat bed trailer, your bike's gonna get hosed. If they use the hanger style rack, you're ok. Get there early, they'll leave your ass if you're not on time.
As for the MRA campground, there's not much in terms of beauty, but the showers are THE BEST facilities I've ever used and I've camped a lot. Lot's of hot water and very clean. The MRA campground is right next to the Kern River so if any of you fish, it's quite easy to access. I took my fly rod up there last season, didn't catch sh*t, but I wasn't really fishing hard. So count Ann and me (Andy) in. Oh yeah, if Shirley Meadows is next to the ski resort, there's a trail there called Alta Vista. Fantastic XC trail with the last 7 miles fireroad downhill. Make sure you shuttle this ride cause my A$$ was screaming by the time I got down. Then I had to ride back into Kernville on the main hwy, not fun. As for the other State campgrounds around MRA, don't bother unless you are into primitive camping. No showers, no flush toilets. |

Fat Chance/Mike, turned up the charm and he was able to secure site # 30 from RMA for (23/24)., supposedly there's another one but they would only book 1., we'll arrive between 9/10 PM.
He just asked the lady to please check if filled up, she did and there was room ! Also, I called Rivernook, it's 1.7 miles away from RMA's, there's 6 or 7 spots there, $ 15 x nite x person, but they won't take reservations 'til 5 days from booking dates. The guy mentioned that there should be a pretty good chance that something will be open., it's more of a trailer camp but there's camping spots too., here's general link ... http://kernvillechamber.org/gotorec.htm Mike, Scott. where are we meeting on saturday morning, at RMA's campground or the cabins you guys booked ? |

Franky, it looks like we are going to have a lot of people at the cabins so for now we will plan that as the meet spot for Sat morning. Did you guys book your shuttle seats yet? You better hurry.

O.K., ECOdork mentioned in #29 this thread was getting out of hand--seems the subsequent fifty friggin' two posts haven't alleviated the issue. How 'bout a clear and concise recap/overview of this ride in a new post? Can continue to post lodging/attendance intentions here, but extracting meaningful logistical info. is getting tough.
I for one plan to camp at Quaking Aspen and meet the shuttle at the top. Only sticking points are the what, where, and when. Why and how are covered. |
