Until something better comes along this is the offical thread.

Maybe George can think of something else, this ride could get big and be a yearly STR event.

Dean/Mike:Count me in. Last year I went up a couple days early and rode some good trails near Quaking Aspen. On a some of the trails there you can ride through some Giant Sequoia sections. I then hooked up with the Kernville stuff. I was thinking of doing something similar this year. Maybe hitting up some of the trails near Kennedy Meadows and then Kernville. If anyone is interested let me know.

This thread is getting out of hand!

Can someone post a short update (here or start a new thread) with the relevant details summarized?

I was just informed by John that they sold out for th weekend of the 24/25, but the shuttle is still available. Campsites that may have openings are Rivernook
Campground, Camp James, Riverview or Frandy campgrounds, or so I'm told by John's wife. I'll try to get a contact and pricing info for one of these places. Also from her email:

On the weekend of June 24th we could do the shuttle to Sherman Pass, and
may need to schedule it with a 7:15 a.m. leave time to coordinate use of
our vehicles and drivers elsewhere throughout the day.

Hey guys, just signed up to this board...

Rode last year w/ Pain Freak and others...

But I can't make that specific weekend, I'll be leaving for Washington that weekend, and returning the next...
If this date is set ... I'll {hopefully} find someother group to do the plunge this year, last year there were three different groups @ 3 different dates. It's not a ride (or trip) to miss.

Scott lets talk, I am more inclinded to make it more than a couple a day affair and would love to spend 3-4 days exploring that area.

***ET_SoCal & Freaky Franky welcome aboard***

Shuttle: I talked to Mountain River Adventures today 760-376-6553. All the shuttles for Saturday June 24th are booked. To reserve the van, I have paid for four seats on the shuttle for Sunday, June 25th @ 8am under the name of Dean Stepper or So-Cal Trail Riders.

Camping: They only have one campsite left (#30) at $32. per night it is small and holds 6. Not knowing the area and hoping for something that can accomodate more, I did not reserve it. I was warned that they are near peak season in late June and camping and motels rooms can get scarce in Kernville.

Recap, I have three seats to sell ($30 each) or call MRA at the number above and reserve a seat on the shuttle, they can take a total of 12. A second van holding 10 can be reserved but they want it completely booked before using it.

I need help with the camping, I don't care where I stay I just want to ride.

New info latest email:

We do not allow folks to pay the morning of our shuttles. The reason we cannot accommodate this request is because our vehicles are pre-scheduled for each days activities. If we do not plan for 14 to be shuttled to the top of Sherman Pass it is highly likely that we will not be able to accommodate that number of people.

So we will need to have a final count about two weeks out and will likely have to give you a maximum for this shuttle; and our established minimum is four.

And don’t forget to tell your riding buddies about our awesome Fat Tire Festival, October 20-22, 2006. Guided rides to all the trails in our area. Thanks again and we look forward to your visit.

I think the best way to handle this , is for the guys going is to contact MRA directly and let them know you are with SoCal Trail Riders and you want a seat. If we get enough there are more options to get us up there, but the best way is to reserve asap.

Franky, as Dean posted Scott's already in on this and about four others from Epic Riders along with about 5 others from last year. We are close approaching 20, maybe more. I'll try to get a hold of Jeff (local) wo has a trailer and helped us out last year.

Looks like I'll have to find us another campsite.
Is anyone familair with any of these sites? I'll call tomorrow and see if I can reserve for 20/25.
