the SART section below Angelus Oaks (heading down the mountain in the direction of Loch Leven) is more technical than SART between Angelus Oaks and South Fork...

It has tight switchbacks, very loose trail conditions, and a couple of steep hike-a-bikes..........It sees a lot less traffic than the standard SART route (from Angelus Oaks to SouthFork)...

The Loch Leven route is not the lower section of the SART but the (Old Highway 38 ) also know as The John Elliot Trail. I don't think it is that bad of a climb except has little shade and is lower down the mountain so a bit hotter. Great way to end the ride.

You do have to refill at South Fork

Sounds like a great ride! I'll give the SS a shot.

Anyone interested in carpooling from the Upland area?

I work for a beer distributor and don't drink much. Trade beer or gas $ for a ride.

Not too familiar with the trail - have only ridden once prior. Will 2 bottles be enough to get to the refill?

Default Loch Leven route

I would be interested in doing the Loch Leven route. I'm a SART virgin, so need to follow someone. Who is meeting earlier, and how long is the extra mileage up to the other peeps?

Thanks

Add another 12 miles (6 up 6 back down) and maybe 1500 extra feet of climbing.

Google Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sadd...=UTF8&t=h&z=17

Parking at where Mill Creek Road (dirt) connects to Highway 38. It is a few 100 yards past (East) the small town of Angelus Oaks. Big turnout parking area, you will need Adventure Pass. Some may ride to the store to get stuff for the trail. Last time I was there they did not sell beer...not much of a general store.

Glad you are coming Jo Jo.

To add a little bit more to Deans directions:

The large lot Dean is talking about is just past town on your left. Once you get into town the speedlimit changes to 35 mph once out of town you'll see another sign that says **END 35 mph** be ready to make the left into the lot/turnout - it literally is right where the speedlimit sign is.

To add to BOTH Dean and Traci's directions

Assuming you're traveling towards Big Bear on Hwy 38 this is the general store / gas station that will be on your left

This is the parking lot where we will meet at 9 am
