Default Sunday 4/30 Beginners ride. Aliso

If you can't do the Gravity ride well here is your second option. The ride will follow these trails; Cholla and Rock-it. I'm taking out a buddy on his first ride in a year so this will be a slow pace, but with a very fun DH section.

Start time will be at 9, we'll wait 10 mins for any late people then we will start riding. Here is where we are going to start at;

That ride is harder than the Gravity Day. More climbing, Mathis and Cholla, and 5-Oaks is more technical, but it is shorter.

I think Steve may have mislabeled that as a "beginner ride". 5 Oaks is definitely not beginner friendly, nor is Mathis a beginner friendly climb. Maybe more along the lines of an "intermediate ride" perhaps?

I'd imagine a beginner ride at Aliso to involve the main lower fireroad with some Coyote s/t thrown in and maybe a climb up Cholla depending on how winded the newbie's may be. Then head back out.

At least I know where the tiny amount of poison oak is at Aliso. That ride sounds fun though. All I have to do is put on some leg warmers at the top of 5 oaks and take them before the fireroad going to Cholla. 5 oaks might be ok as long as the new guy walks the difficult sections?

Dean, I know you tried to convince me about being able to avoid PO at the gravity day place but I'm not going to take any chances for awhile.

That is awesome to hear because I have made to the top of Cholla with only a few problems.

I'm interested. Can it be done in 2 hours? I actually dont mind starting at 7am (is the park even open at this time?), and i do have to finish by 10am. Have some other duties...

I don't mean to micro-manage steve's ride, but as gonzo said, Aliso has lots of bail-out spots and meeting places (if you think about it from the other perspective). Make it easy to do your own thing if necessary or desired...

Default PO Warning

There's a ton of PO (a wall even) on the trail between Dripping Cave and Mathis - beware!

George i don't think you can escape the PO. I think its out looking for you, tracking you down wherever you ride.

No PO on Upper Sam Merrill, Middle Sam Merrill or Echo Mountain. That is 2/3 thirds of the ride. You can skip Sunset and El Prieto by using fireroads and pavement back to JPL.

I agree with Dean and Epic, the shuttle ride is calling your name. Also Dean said there is not much climbing so its the perfect, getting back on the bike and getting your legs under you again, ride

Okay maybe because of the trails I picked this isn't a this isn't a beginners ride, but the pace will be a beginners pace. Plenty of stopping to catch your breath.
