I would say hit up Chesboro or Los Robles. Lots of option there. Maybe one of the locals will give ya the tour at Chesboro as there are a few that ride there a lot and I find it to have more variety.
Chesboro: Take the 101 north out of L.A. Exit at Cheeseboro- Take a right off of the freeway and at the first stop sign take another right. When you drive into the Old Agoura neighborhood, you'll be on Cheseboro Road (paved). Head up the tight road for about a mile then you will see on your right the entrance to the National Recreation Area. You can park outside the gates or you can drive up to the parking lot for more parking. Los Robles: 101 NORTH PAST AGOURA TO THOUSAND OAKS... PASS THE 23HWY. GET OFF THE 101 AT MOORPARK EXIT. TAKE A LEFT. (SOUTH) HEAD STRAIGHT TILL THE ROAD DEAD ENDS AT THE PARKS ENTRANCE.. LESS THAN 1/2 MILE OFF THE HIGHWAY. Thomas Guide page 556

Hey JimmyJ,
In addition to Cheseboro and Los Robles I would recommend Sycamore Canyon. I might be able to meet up with you for an evening/night ride if you're interested, just let me know. Also there might be a group ride at Cheseboro next Sunday. The details are still in the works. |

rocky peak is pretty fun too, but that's out in the east end of simi, exit kuehner off the 118. I was up in TO this weekend visiting my parents and did a loop of chumash to rocky peak to hummingbird. Some great chunky rocks and whatnot.

My brother in laws and I went for ride on Sycamore....WHOA!! that place is freaking awesome. It was my first time out there and first time riding in about 5-6 months. It was pretty rough (on my part) but theres a lot of great trails out there. For sure you should give it a try, who knows I'll probably see you there.

You might live close to Wildwood. Great for a good lap or two. Also Long Canyon which can be accessed from the Thousand Oaks side as well. If you want a good 40 mile ride it goes all the way out to Chesboro. Nothing around here can beat Sycamore canyon though. In Simi Valley you can ride a great beginner trail that crosses by a working ranch. Its an easier way to get down the Chumash trail (a really, really awesome singletrack) than taking the fire road from the 118. Exit Yosemite from Simi and drive up to Evening Sky Dr. and turn right. Trailhead is right where the street starts getting steep on the left (theres one on the right as well but thats not it) Take the fireroad to the big gate, hang a right and climb for a couple miles til you get to Chumash and decend. Just before you make it down to the trailhead on Flannigan, hook right and you'll be on Evening Sky drive back where you started. |
