Default Bellflower BMX Monday Night! 7/14

Sorry for the late posting. Ko and I will be going to the Bellflower BMX track tonight. We'll be there at about 6:00ish.

Practice and signups are from 5:30-7:30 pm, and racing begins shortly thereafter.

Monday nights is cruiser nights, so instead of just practicing for $5, you can race for that same $5!

The track is at the Hollywood Sports Park in the far corner behind the paintball areas.

Come to ride or to check it out!

- mountain bikes are ok! (yes, even 29ers)
- helmet, long-sleeve shirt, and long pants are required

http://bellflowerbmx.com/

If there are enough 4X/mountain bikes who are interested in racing, I'm sure they'll have a race!

Thanks to everyone who came out. It was really cool to see Julia, Carla, Fred, and Mark also out there racing!

Julia, don't be disappointed that you didn't beat the district champion, but if you keep racing (and perhaps ride a lighter BMX-type bike), she's within reach. Don't give up!

It was impressive to see that they had 5 cruiser classes last night. Right on!

Donny, get your gf involved, then you can spend time riding and with the STR peeps!

It was really cool seeing the world famous Stu Thomson out there practicing. In my opinion, he's the most famous BMXer ever, and his reputation will never be eclipsed. And there he was, practicing with the rest of us. So cool!

Looking into the lighter bike...

Bummed I missed everyone's racing. Lee thanks for posting and I'll be out there to watch Ko race next monday. I heard she's racing can't miss Ko's first race. It's so cool to watch how everyone just keeps getting better on the track.

I asked Ko to race (a little nicer than we "encouraged" Julia to race). She's not really a competitive person...yet, so I'm not sure how soon she'll be racing, if she does. Had we had the women's cruiser class discussion more than 3 minutes before signups ended, Julia could have taken Ko's BMX bike out on the track for a couple practice runs and then raced it.

Had another good time, I think I am starting to find places to pick up speed on that track each time. Now if I could start I might have a good shot at beating some people.

Hopefully next time we won't have to work so hard to get Julia to race.

Default Competitive person...

I am with Ko.

Thanks Lee!

Hopefully Julia will have her BMX bike soon. We are looking into it. Her heart is set on the Podium Intense. I wish Julia would have tried Ko's bike. I'll be keeping the black market for me. I'll be out there monday cheering everyone on.

Make sure to do a lot of research on sizing. She may also want to consider riding a 20, instead of a 24. There are a lot more girls her age on 20s. Also, for her size, she may best fit on an expert sized bike, which typically has narrower wheels. The Podium Pro is the smallest bike that uses "normal" sized 20" wheels, and it's a half inch shorter than mine and Ricky's 20s. Try to talk with some of the other parents out there to see if Julia can ride some of their kids' bikes.

Although Ko's cruiser would have been better than the Black Market, it's still too big for Juila. It's too big for Ko. Heck, it's 8/10" longer than the cruiser I ride! Other than the expert or junior cruisers (which all use narrower wheels), it's hard to find small cruisers.

As us mtbers get used to riding the track on these "very responsive" bikes, I think more and more of us will be riding 20s as well. In my opinion, riding the 20 is more fun, as others here will agree.

well a 20" rides great on tracks designed for 20" I dont like mine at bellflower because its so freakin bumpy but at orange my 26" felt like a dog when I rode it. Also the rhythm sections just "Click" when your on a 20 " bike

Julia did ride someone's 24 at the Y...was not real comfortable. It could be she needs to ride it around the track a couple times. I will keep your advice in mind. May have been a good idea not to mention "research" as this is what I do for a living. I can research the heck out of anything even the most minor stuff. Meaning it could take me years to purchase her BMX bike.

I think it's just easier if just let all of you talk to Julia about her bike purchase. I'll be visiting Mike at Fullerton Bikes and I am sure he will be the key to this bike purchase.

My child is so addicted to BMX and all of you... that I've been asked to cut down our vacation from 6 day's to 3 or 4 day's. It's most amazing to me is that - I am doing this. How dare I think of her on a boat for 6/8 days. What was I thinking?
