Default Take a kid mtb day 2008 (Sat - Oct 4th) STR V2.0 Merged threads

Date: Saturday, Oct 4th

Time: 9:30am

Place -Meet at Irvine Regional Park 9:30am. Lot #10. (park site has bench tables, bathrooms, water fountains, outside sink etc).

Quick direciton to lot...Enter park >Follow sign towards GROUP AREA 1,2,3 (i.e. go right) >Drive -> pass duck pond on left -> Drive a bit more -> look for sign on left that says #10.

Ride -Start rolling no later that 9:45am. Based on who shows figure out ride(s) based on "level"

"Picnic" - at Irvine park to follow> Start around 11:30 and go to maybe 1:00 or a bit later. Food, drink and kids free raffle -swag donated by Local Bikes shops!!

We can decide specific routes (try to accomodate all levels) but think will be at least two groups

1) Trailer Crash Kids - Those pulling trailers and those seeking "flat" terrain in either Irvine Park or peters Canyon. I can lead this group pulling my son in trailer.

2) Groms with Moms and/or Pops - Second group heads to peters Canyon for loop(s). Sounds like a few are very familiar with this park so hoping at least 2 adults can take on leading and sweep. btw- if you can pull trailer in peters feel free to join this ride

Similar to last year we can have a third group for the mroe experienced young guns to hit Santiago Oaks

As expected everyone’s safety particularly that of the children is most important. It is your sole responsibility to watch out for your child, guests and yourself. All young riders must be accompanied by a parent and/or guardian. Please make sure you and your child has the proper safety and repair gear (e.g. helmet, pads, spare tubes, etc), food/water and properly working bike or trailer. Please also step up to protect all others who you think may need some support along the way.

In regard to picnic/bbq I can bring EZ up, tailgate BBQ (small propane webber) and will bring burgers, buns, condiments for all.

I ask that others please volunteer to bring some other stuff such as plates, napkins, drinks, as well as any other food items cold or for the BBQ. Sound fair?

Note I will only bring enough burgers and such for the head count as listed in the YES reply section.

Also sounds like most are familiar with trails at Peters Canyon, but I uploaded a vid that you can check out. Its not the total park and reps portions of ride #2. You can ride it in varied directions but should give a small sense of park

last year we started at Irvine and broke into 3 groups based on ride level.

2 hit peters (1 basically out and back on flat and 1 did loop) and other group did Sant oaks.

I think there were even a few that stayed on paved in irvine

while open to all ideas Irvine seemed to work very well (meet, ride, bbq, etc) so prob keep it based from there

Default Annual STR Kids ride/BBQ 10/4/08

It's coming up again soon.

Get the kids off the video games, turn off the TV and dust off those bikes.

Kid-A is once again spearheading the Annual STR Kids ride.

This was a great time last year and I'm sure this year will be even better.

Calendar link:http://www.socaltrailriders.org/foru...=2008-10-4&c=2[/quote]

Thanks for getting the ball rolling Kid A

Wish it was closer. I would love to take my Nieces to this. Unfortunately I dont have a DVD player in the truck to show the little mermaid and Dora the Explorer for that long. They'd probably both gang up and kill me before we hit the parking lot.

Craig - thanks to you and the boards support here.

As mentioned a fun day riding with your kids.

its all about the smiles folks.

If you got little ones please feel free to ride & join in

If you dont have kids of your own or they are "not kids anymore" please feel free to invite/bring along your nieces, nephews. friends and/or neighbor kids.

merely trying to spread the love of dirt to the next gen

Again the ride is for kids of all ages. Last year we had kids ~ 1year old up to ~15yrs old

I'm continuing to work with some LBS's and IMBA who are donating some cool swag for teh kids free raffle.

Thanks again craig!

Including calendar rsvp here as well to assist

Is there a minimum age for trailering kids?

I have an 18 month old and have been wanting to get one. Does she need a helmet in there? And do they make them that small? Not that she would wear it anyways Im sure.

no expert and there have been a few prior threads on on related subject such as-> Baby Seat or Trailer

In general the rule of thumb i have heard is you child should be old/developed enough to keep their head upright so he/she dont get bashed around during the ride.

Many feel that is around 1 year old. I started taking my son in a trailer on chill rides around that age and no issues. i think a few others have told me they started as early as 8/9 months.

early on my son had no interest in wearing a helmet but after a while and seeing daddy wear his -he thinks its cool. beside he has a cooler helmet than mine.

we have a chariot trailer but think there are a few good brands that others pull their grom in (burly, etc.) see the aforementioned thread

Hope it helps and hope u can join in

our set-up and my son's helmet
