Load up your bob's with food and beers and head up to Sierra Peak 4th of July evening to watch the fireworks! From here we can see most all of the OC frieworks, and a bunch of the Corona side ones too.
We'll meet up at the tree farm end of Blackstar, just off of Silverado Canyon, at 6:00 and head out by 6:15, which should give us plenty of time to make the climb up to Beek's and then on up to Sierra Peak before it gets dark. Bring lights for the descent. The ride itself climbs up Blackstar to Main Divide, then a short distance on Main Divide to Sierra Peak. It's all fireroad climbing, and none of it is too steep - the Blackstar - Beeks ride was the newbie ride a few months ago. Depending on the groups size, we can break into a couple groups for the climb - we're all going the same place! Most of the fireworks start at 9, so there should be plenty of time for festivities. ![]() Just added this to the calendar, so you can rsvp there. Or here. Or both! I'm sure no one here would, but just to be safe - don't bring any fireworks. duh - like we another fire.

I went to Beeks on the 4th in 2006 to watch the fireworks. As he said, you can see the fireworks across OC, and perhaps even to Long Beach and LA, as well as those that are on the Corona/Murietta side. Granted, they're all really far away, but it's still cool to see so many displays going at one time.
At that time, I was still wearing a cast on my left wrist from destroying it more than 5 months before, and because of the nerve damage in my left hand, it hurt to hold on to the handlebars with the fingers that were sticking out of the cast... And so there I was...I was in front of the group bombing down Blackstar Canyon road mostly one-handed late at night going way faster than what was safe for my condition, when my headlight lit up a mountain lion that was crossing the road. Fortunately, I think he was more scared at that moment than I was (despite my speed alone scaring the crap out of me), and it bolted into the bushes on the side of the road. I thought that was so cool...but my heart rate didn't come back to normal until later that evening. Thank god all the beer consumed at the top helped relax me for the ride down. That ride was so cool, and I've been wanting to do that for the 4th again. Depending on what we end up doing that day, we may be there. I can assure you that whoever does this will have fun.

Great idea Tim!
Sadly I'm out of town too. But I may try going up there this summer to see the Disney fireworks that go off at 9:30am another time. Gotta cycle those lights every now and then.

Tim interesting idea. I could be talked into hauling a Bob Trailer and a cooler full of beer up to Sierra Peak. Although I do think the haul person should not have to buy beer. Since I do not drink the beer incentive doesn't work for me. But watching others ride in the dark and drink is always entertaining. Wonder how many beers we are talking about? I have a Bob Trailer that will take a 29 or 26 inch wheel. Maybe we hook the Bob to my Single Speed and share the pain.

I'll happily pull a loaded bob up, I just don't have one of my own. If anybody's got one that they don't mind me hauling, i'll haul their beers too. I figure the better workout i get towing it up, the more rewarding the beer will be once i get there!
I think i might ss this too. Ah, sweet pain...
