Nice job Sam! Great job keeping on them until we could finally give the singletrack out there some much needed work. Good to see someone out at CHSP isn't afraid to blow through red tape to get this done.

I will definitely be there!

Things are shaping up with the state park authorities. They are talking about starting at 6 or 7 am. I will push for 7 am. More details will come next week.

Please see the original post. I have added a lot of details. Please tell your friends about this so we can try to get as many trails cleared as possible!!

I'm in. I normally only ride the CHSP in the fall/winter months because of the overgrowth spring through late summer. It will be great to have the park back before then.

If you plan on coming, please make sure to CLICK HERE to RSVP.

I am looking forward to a good turn out. It's cool the park officials sent this out to WS, Share, and so many other organizations!!

Another update: The Parks Superintendent is pretty hyped about this event. He is talking about making a monthly or quarterly event to keep the trails in good shape. This is definitely what the park needs. It wouldn't be in such bad shape if there had been even small efforts at trail work back in the spring. Hopefully we can prevent this mess next year.

Please note the time change in the original post. We will be gathering at 6 AM. This was not my choice but a decision made by park officials.

Judging by the number of groups that will be participating and the expected number of volunteers, I think we should be able to clear Bane Ridge in a few hours. We'll see.

Thanks for the update Brewmaster

Although 6 am is early it is probably for the best given that it will likely be super hot.

Look'n forward to clearing Bane Ridge - one of my favorites at CHSP.

Though I would gladly give $4 to support CHSP, charging trail volunteers to park their cars would be absurd. I assume they will allow us to park in the equestrian center for free that day.

Good job you guys, too hot for this old man to work out there and I am out of town. We normally just wait for the yearly Sept-Oct grass fire to clear the trails.

Ha! I live right outside the park, so a grass fire could pose a big problem for me.

Last year there were no fires in the park and the Santa Ana winds did the work of knocking down the dead grasses. I hope it stays that way this year.

Some of the single track is becoming rideable because people are using the trails despite getting bushwhacked. This is trimming the brush and opening up the trails a bit. I have my fair share of scratches, too. I never thought I'd say it, but I am glad that equestrians are using the trails. Their fat horses have cleared a wide path on Alluvial.

These are things to bring: gloves, eye protection, sunscreen, bug spray, hat and camelbak with ice water. Some like to wear long pants like the ones you would wear camping that can unzip at the knees or wear shorts like I do, but then expect to get scratches and cuts.

For those who are wondering about power tools, usually it will not be permitted due to fire hazard which is why trail work is not usually done in the summer. So be prepared for hard work.

Attached is the flier that the park has put together for this event. Would someone be willing to post this at the Rimcrest entrance before this weekend (so the weekend trail users will see it)?

I will post the flier at 4 Corners today.

Feel free to forward the flier far and wide and make sure to RSVP! I'll need to give the rangers a count of how many STR peeps are expected to show up by Monday or Tuesday next week.

After looking at the flyer, I guess there's no need for me to bring the gas powered brush cutter I have. Bummer. It's gonna be a pain but I understand the situation out there.
