Default "Get The Hell Outta Here" Men's ride (Women's Clinic alt.) - OAKS/PETERS 6-21

Hey gang,

Looks like a lot of the Mr's will be riding nearby while the Mrs' are in the skills clinic! While they are busy, here is what we were thinking of riding, as per ODB's suggestion:

Quote:
--Up Taco (tough climb with a smidge of hike a bike) and up the 3rd B and around Robber's Roost
--Down the first of the newly reopened frontside trails off Barham Ridge (still pretty loose, but fun and swoopy)
--Up Powerline (steep, with some hike-a-bike, but 90% rideable); this puts you at the top gate of the 3 B's
--Downhill to the singletrack cutoffs to Taco downhill (optional gnar rock roller or mini-huck on the way)
--Up the 3 B's
--Playtime on the jumps and drops up top
--Optional at this point: Either go do the Weir Canyon Loop (with Cliffhanger downhill); or just head straight down Barham Ridge and go out on Chutes. (the Weir group would tack on Chutes at the end cuz that's the most direct way back out.
--Lower singletrack back to Irvine Regional and out

As said before, just a recommendation. Another option would be to cut out the Taco downhill and drop Goat instead and loop back to the B's.
PARKING INFO:

Since this ride was started as an alternate to the Women's Clinic, and many of us will be driving to our respective trailheads as a couple, I think it would be best to park @ the Women's Clinic and ride out from there. Park at:

Irvine Regional Park
1 Irvine Park Road
Orange, CA 92862 (Jamboree dead ends into
the park near Chapman Ave.)

Parking: $5 to enter the park….once you go in the entrance of the park follow the small signs for the Women’s Clinic and look for people directing you in the right direction wearing Switchback Cyclery Jerseys

...if it makes more sense and the trail network allows, perhaps there's a route to ride from Irvine Park into Oaks?

My wife will be at the clinic so I'd like to ride at the same time/general location.

I was thinking of just staying at Santiago Oaks and hitting some of the funner stuff there. Slow paced slacker ride. I'll most likely get something to eat afterwards. I think I saw Spooky Dave and Xhunker wanting to do something as well.

Even if we ride at a slow pace, it may be tough to eat up 4 hours...maybe we could shoot for a 2-hour ride (8-10 or so), and then head back to eat?

With two or three climbs up the B's, a loop through Weir Canyon and some playtime up top, you can easily eat up at least 3 hours at Oaks alone.

Cowgirl was kind enough to allow me to put a link to this ride on the clinic thread.

Alrighty...maybe a couple laps through Oaks then?

I LOVE Chutes...I'd put a vote in for a 3 B's-Chutes lap.

As for another 1-2 laps, I don't know any of the other trails as I've only ridden the aforementioned loop! What else is good in there?

I've had the chance to climb and descent Taco (just reopened) and wouldn't mind trying the others if anyone has ridden them. May want to hit Blair witch for some shade too!!

I'm taking my Brooklyn out for a spin so I won't be setting the world on fire on an up hill pace. I was just going to do my own thing but if anyone wants to tag along that's fine as well.

I can't post the route on STR. ;-)

Anyone have a suggestion for a ride in the area that's along the intermediate (technically), 2-3 hour mark? I'm a slow climber and still getting back in shape so I can't keep up with you speed demons. I like rolling singletrack better than sustained, long climbs and fire roads...is there anything in the area where I can ride something with like 1,500 total ascent but where it's not all at once? I just moved to SoCal in September so I'm still learning where all the spots are...and I plan on dropping the GF off at the women's clinic that morning.

This ride should be exactly what you're looking for. The hot-doggers can feel free to go ahead; I think most of us are planning an "intermediate/social" ride. Don't worry about getting dropped; we usually have someone riding "sweep" to bring up the rear.

Looks like probably a ~2 to ~3 hour loop and then a leisurely lunch with some brews to follow.

Can someone who is familiar with Oaks maybe map us out a route that might work? We've had suggestions for Chutes, Taco and Blair. Is there a way to work in all 3? Doesn't matter if we have to make 2 laps; the Chutes loop is only about 6 miles.

It seems the peanut gallery is looking for about a 2-3 hour ride, correct?

I'm not the expert on Oaks, but I like this route:

Ride/push up Chutes, play around at the top for a while. Down Waterfall, up the B's, down Chutes, Play in the jungle. Drink beer.

Always time for some other options too. It may be hot though so depending on the temp I may limit the climbs.

Ok, wait a second...I understand the part about the beer...but I'm a little fuzzy on the rest...?!

Your route is pretty close to what I'm thinking.
