How many miles are you planning on going? I've never been to this area, but it looks like there are some possible variations? Assuming it is more than 10 miles or so, I would like to make it over there (I live in Huntington Beach, which seems to be as far from any bike trails as you can get in So Cal).
BTW, this is my first post so hello all. I've been an irregular mountain biker for a while, but took a long break after finishing school. I recently got a new bike, and am just starting to go regularly again. At this point, I am in decent shape although not a very fast MTB'r. |

Here's some info from singletrackmind. If you park at cook's corner you'll have to ride on the road a little bit to get to the start of the actual ride.
You can choose to ride up and then down the luge, go all the way to old camp and then come back to the luge, or just go and come back the way you came.

I'm not sure exactly where you guys plan to start, but here is the link to the Santiago Truck Trail (STT) gate on Modjeska Grade (LINK).
There is a flag pole on the corner of Santiago Canyon and Modjeska Grade. Head up that steep road and on the right you will see the gate. You can park on Modjeska Grade, BUT make sure you heed the signs or you may get towed. It's about 4 miles from the gate to the "flag pole". Mostly climbing, but a modest grade (and a heck of a lot of fun on the way back). The Luge is DOWN from the flag pole, but may be too muddy to ride. Old camp is about 4 more miles up the main road. If at any point you aren't feeling it, just turn around go downhill most of the way back to the car. Welcome Andrew! ![]() |
