in response to calepic, there is about 3 miles of climbing, it is a shuttle so we drive up highway 74 and then you go downhill for about 9 miles or something a few ups but its not like any big climbing
i havent done it with art smith, but i think its somehing like 18-20 miles to the bull dozer it is really a great ride, i've done it twice and you should be prepared for the ride (extra derailler hanger and lots of tubes) and for ride 2 live it is in palm springs and its not just the art smith trail, its the palm canyon epic ending with the art smith trail and skipping the hahn buena vista trail and the goat trails |

Tom,
I'm in!! RIDE 2 LIVE, Art Smith is an 8 mile wild descent, extremely technical yet very scenic. it was 99.999% rideable last time Tom & myself rode it. this will be the last part of a ~27 mile epic ride going down Palm Canyon. Art Smith Trail starts off Dunn Rd,. where there is an old abandoned Bulldozer and picnic tables out in the middle of nowhere. (Junction of: Hahn Buena Vista Trail, Dunn Rd. & Art Smith trail). All STR members, I definitely recommend this ride, it's extremely technical yet very scenic. last time i did the Palm Canyon portion of the ride i have a few mishaps, but this time i hope all goes well. hope to see some of you out there!!!!!

I might have to work Sunday (inventory) if I don't get it done by Friday. I really would love to ride this after these recent rains. Even if it rains around here, I think the rain should be absorbed out there in less then 24 hours so that shouldn't be a problem. I have another couple guys who will probably want to tag along.
Hey Tom, Did you find a silver Ipod in your truck? I can't find mine.

Hey cal this will be a little longer ride than the palm canyn epic due to the crosscountry art smith trail . Nothing real difficult till you get to the end of Art Smith. Art Smith is 8.5 miles and Palm canyon to the Art smith is about 20. Total will be about 28.5 of epic s/t. Climbing won't be much maybe 6-7 miles in between the downs. Art Smith finishes on a 3-4 mile down.
The weather should be perfect!!!! Hey live 2 ride, Art Smith is in Palm desert area about 3\4 the way through the Palm canyon epic. Mike I havent seen and Ipod but then again I haven't really looked either. I will let you know. Get that inventory done, work o/t if you have to. Would be great to ride with ya. Tom Hey mike, My enduro is out for 3 weeks .

Art Smith Trail is more like 3-4 miles south on the 74 from the 111
We're meeting at 6:30 am. tomorrow for a huge carpool, we're most likely going to caravan out there. Location: the Edwards' Cinema. it's at the Ontario Mills mall which is off the 10 & 15 fwy's the exactly meeting place within the mall is off 4th street and the 15 fwy on the southwest corner across the street from the Mobil gas station. You're best bet is to exit at the 4th street exit on the 15 just north of the 10 (as soon as you go north of the 10 the exit is right there) ![]()

Hey guys hows it going? I have some time off to go on a vacation . We are going to palm springs me and my wife .
She is new to mountain biking and climbs well for a new rider she can ride longer then I can and I have been riding off and on since 89. I'm out of shape but I can still rip up the wild down hill sections. But that is not what I want to take my wife on for her first time out on a real ride. I have been taking her to fullerton loop she is fine on that .it's mellow. I like a more single track type of ride. My fav ride is San Juan trail. I was thinking that it might be a rough for her . For now maybe later. What is a mild ride that has nice single track and fun down hill / safe 8-) for my wife and mild climbing for my fatness. In Palm Springs ???? I am going to be there the 7-8 of next week . I need to plan a good ride but need help. Last edited by RacinJason; 01-02-2007 at 11:31 PM. Hey Jason,
Everything I know of is climbing dunn rd, very steep tough climb most all of the dh is rocky with exposure too. The beginning of Art smith is like climbing San Juan, the end is very technical with major exposure.
