This is my first ride posting
![]() I'm planning on going to the Orange Y BMX track this Friday. All are invited. Practice and sign-ups are 5:30 to 7:30 on Fridays, and races begin shortly after registration closes. I get there at about 6:00ish. Show up to practice on the track, or Practice and try out your racing skilzz! If you are in spectator mode there are a lot of open seats in the bleachers! So no excuses. Be there or be....... An ABA membership is required (although 1-day memberships are available). If you don't have a BMX bike, mountain bikes are OK! All you need is: - helmet (XC Helmet is OK, but full face helmets are better) - long sleeve shirt - pants All info here on the website: http://orangeybmx.com/ Orange Y BMX 2241 E. Palmyra Orange, California Directions: Take the Chapman offramp exit east to Yorba Street, turn right Turn right onto Palmyra the track is located at the end of Palmyra on the right. HUGH ![]() |

Oh, I see how it is...you want to post it before I do! That means you're racing, right?
I just got back from the Redline Cup Qualifier at Orange this afternoon. It was a bit warm out there. Participation was pretty good, I thought - about 50ish motos! Yes, plenty of time to rest between motos. I also had a legit 36-40 cruiser class with some good competion. I was happy to get third. Also, I went to a taller gear from 42/18 to 40/17. During the motos, we had a head wind on the start! For the main, there wasn't much of a head wind, so I did better on the first straight. Oddly, even though I put in the same effort - I thought - I wasn't as tired at the end. Anyhow, see you all on Friday! Oh, some of you guys know Jay - the guy in my class who also rides for Fullerton Bicycles. After he gets his new Intense Posium, he's going to sell his Redline Flight cruiser. I think they retail for just under 700, and he said he may ask $350. So if anyone is interested, hit him up on Friday. It's a fast bike (it usually kicks my butt!).

Carla, you're going to have to work on Ko. There were a bunch of women racing cruiser today - I think they may have had a couple women's cruiser classes. One of the women kept telling Ko to race. Ko says that she's not competitive, and really not interested in racing. However, Ko saw the person who got last today in one of the women's cruiser classes, and she's thinking that she may be faster than her.
Whether she is or not doesn't matter, but just having that thought is the first sign of being competitive. Maybe she will get a competitive bug in her some day.

And I'd like to emphasize with getting significant others to ride that you don't apply any pressure to ride, and let them do it on their own. Yes, I encourage others to get Ko to race, but I don't pressure her. I don't care if she does or doesn't. Sure it would be cool if she does, but I'm just excited that she simply enjoys going to the track and practicing. That GT is totally a sweet fine! Bryguy17 had a 15 year old GT Mach 1 last Friday that was in awesome condition. It was a bit small for him (an expert?), but he sure rocked on it! And I think that was his first time back at the track in a while. He's going to totally rock if he upgrades his bike to something that fits better and spends more time at the track. By the way, these days with some brands, there are different sizes of expert frames (expert and expert XL). Here's a chart from Dan's Comp. I don't fully agree with everything, but it is a starting point. http://www.danscomp.com/serve.php?se...riderchart.htm

yeah, I'm curious to see how the track will feel with a properly sized bike. That little GT is really fun, but the smallness can get to you, especially at my 6'6" stature. Perhaps I could talk one of you guys with super cool cruisers into letting my try a lap or two
![]() ![]() BTW, that was my second time on a BMX track ever last friday. it's really fun, and i find myself trying to figure out how i can go faster. Needa figure out that whole manual over the top of tables thing first ![]() count on me being out there again though. unless something big comes up, I'll be out there rocking the GT |

Byguy17, all you had to do was ask! My girlfriend rides my older GT Speed Series cruiser. Although it is a bit older, the geometry isn't too far off of what's out there now, and it's sized comparable to any other pro-sized cruiser. It has flat pedals on it (I run SPDs on mine). When she's not riding it, take it for a spin!

I haven't seen it posted (Mostly because it's a Las Vegas event I'm sure
), but the three BMX tracks in town, two NBL and one ABA, are holding a King of Vegas BMX series. It's a 30+ age group open bike class. You get to race some legends of the BMX world like ABA hall of fame and AA pro cruiser rider Turnell Henry. Check out the web site at: www.kingofvegasbmx.com Any takers? Lee???? It's an excuse to race, see Vegas, and participate in a first of its kind series! I'll be hitting it this weekend at *gasp* an ABA track. Either ABA or NBL lic. are required. ![]() And I apologize if I high-jacked the thread. I've been told the Y is one of the best and if you haven't tried some BMX you're missing out on a great night of fun!

Now that we're past that... I've been reading about that event. No offence to Las Vegans, but I hate that place! Other than Turnell Henry, I don't know any of those names in the points standings. BTW, in regards to ABA vs NBL, there is only one NBL track in local So Cal that I'm aware of, and it just opened. NBL has no presence here.
