Default Santa Ana River Trail Saturday 5-6 @ 8

This is being organized by the guys on Geoladders. Matt(kip) and I are riding, 11 other guys have signed up so far for the ride. This is going to be a large fun group. Most of the guys are high up in the ladder standings so this will probably be a fast pace ride. Sign up on Geoladders and then post here.

Do you know if it is the upper (Angelus Oaks to South Fork out and back) or lower section (Angelus Oaks to Mentone with shuttle)? I'm anxious to try the lower one. The upper is awesome, though.

I was told yesterday by some guys that went up there that there was a lot of snow. Riding wasn't very good. Hopefully it will melt by then. They did say that not all of it was snowed under, but it was very difficult to ride as it was partially melted and very slippery.

Slippery on some of SART would not be very good. Some fairly nice exposure on some parts.

I have never done SART before, so I am not familiar with the trail. I sent an e-mail to the guy who is organizing this event and this was his response,

"I've never heard of those identifiers before so I couldn't tell you. We park at the ranger station at the bottom, load the bikes up and shuttle to the top...some 30+ miles up the road if that helps."

Here is a picture of me from the SART in 2000. There may have been a little bit of snow. I believe we did this is February. Somehow the guy we were with knew the trail even though in places the snow was over a foot deep.

So a "maybe" for me...

I've never done SART before. you can count me in for this ride if it's not snowed in. I live in Ontario, close to the 60 &15, just in case some of you may want to carpool up there.

its an awesome trail, some really skinny sections and when i rode it (sometime in novemeber) there were some obstructions on the trail that you had to climb over from them sliding down the hill (very steep sides on both sides so dont fall) very different experience from the typical OC riding

Default There are

what I consider two parts to the SART (really 3 if you count the bike path), but the shuttle one is a lot different to me then what I call the upper one. Most folks just ride the upper section (which is a very fun trail) and then call it a day. This ride that requires a shuttle does a lot of the upper section, but also a lot beyond that. We just did it in Nov too, and it was a blast, but there was no snow to speak of. This might be listed as a shuttle, but it's still a difficult ride. It's still one of my favorites too. But as a few others have said, they will skip it because of the cold and I'm a desert rat at heart and I'll wait till it warms up too. Any other time and I'd be on this ride in a heartbeat.
