You can practice on the track, or participate in a race, or both! Bring your 20", 24", or 26". Whatever you've got and feel comfortable riding! Requirements: 1.) An ABA membership (or sign up that day for a trial membership). 2.) helmet (XC or full face) 3.) long sleeve shirt 4.) long pants 5.) plenty of water!!! This is one heck of a workout. I'm sorry that I won't be able to make it (but rest assured, I will be having fun elsewhere).
Who's racing on Friday? More importantly, who's taking and posting photos Friday? Trust me, I'm sure the photo ops will be awesome! History will be made, and I won't be there! ![]()

As long as you don't get in the way, you can stand on the infield during practice. During the races, the fence lines the track, so you're still really close to the action.
Depending on what you want to shoot, I don't think you'd need anything more than a 200, unless you want to shoot all the way across the track, then maybe a 300 (cropping a high res shot with a 200 would also be fine).

Unless Mfoga is using pro series zoom lenses, I wouldn't even bother using them for evening photography!
My opinion: a flash combined with a smaller lens will produce MUCH better images. With that said, my Brother assists a mutual friend on Evening (professional) sports shoots. Even with the best gear, they have a difficult time producing clean images. Bring a flash and hope for the best....

I have shot my buddy dad riding in a speedway race with it at night. I am not some pro but I have very good luck with the 300 in low light situations. I rarely use the other lenses so I am not sure what kind of result I would get with those. I have mostly used the 300 for Surf photography but have never had an issue even in very overcast situations. |
