Mfoga- You're the expert NOT me.

Bring the 300 and see what happens!
You will surely take a few clean pics (especially between 5pm and 7pm).

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!

Dino, when you say small lense, I'm assuming you're referring to the focal length. And it's true, being upclose with a flash is easier. However, a longer lense with a larger aperature (lower F-stop) shot at a higher shutter speed (and good panning) can yield good results for a skilled photographer. I'm not familiar with many current digital cameras, but if you can change the effective ISO rating to say 400-800, it may help a bit (although it may be grainy - or at least that's how film can be).

Yes, I was a semi-professional sports photographer in one of my previous lives, but I sure have forgotten a lot, so please excuse me if my terminology is not correct. My work has been on the covers of many magazines. But that was some ago. Now I'm just a hack with a PAS.

Were you shooting from the water? When I shot stuff in the surf, I always used a 600 (yes, those big-a$$ canon looking lenses). A 300 or 400 with a 1.4X or a 2x was OK, but the quality wasn't as good as a 600. If I was on the water, such as on a PWC or a boat, I could use a 300. By the way, salt-water spray sucks for cameras without an underwater housing.

From beach, I have used a 1.4x or 2x a few time but quite a few times I didn't use a TC. I would love to get a 500 or 600 lens but I don't have 10K sitting around. I never did this professionally its just something to to with friends and for fun at contests.

My apologies to both Lee and Mfoga.

Allow me to clarify:
If mfoga's zoom is f/1.8/2.0/2.8, ignore EVERYTHING I said! I am presuming his lenses are not! Will simply make things more "difficult" (photo blur, noise, yellowing of photos, lifeless colors, shadows etc.). Like I said, he will have a solid HOUR+ to take clean pictures. After that, the camera will take some tweaking...

The thing I noticed about Orange BMX, there are only a few spots one can take clean EVENING images. Even these have less than stellar lighting!

That's all I'm saying!
I would never question "The Lee Bower."
Yes, you have reached 3rd person (i.e. iconic) status.

Its ok I have never been there so all the info is helpful. I will just figure it out on the fly. And yeah the zooms aren't fast, just basic cheapy lenses that came with the package.

By the way, you can rent a 600 from some pro shops. If you can get your name on a magazine masthead, you can also sign up for Canon's pro program where they will loan stuff to you free of charge.

Is this threadjacking?

who cares if its hijacking

If i come I'll bring along the dSLR. canon rebel XT, stock 18-55, 28-135, 70-300, speedlite flash. could be useful for the racing stuff. If someone has a speedlight 520, i can do remote flash, which can let you take pics from further away and still have good lighting. You can also take a picture of someone from the front with flash without blinding them as badly

Right now its looking like I'll be showing up, as my brother is pretty flaky ATM. Someone come say hi to me and introduce yourself, I'll either be on my vintage GT BMX or my spesh hardrock with white fox fork. or both. too many decision

I bring my 17-55/2.8 and my 70-200/2.8 to the track. 90% of the time the 17-55 is on my camera. Only because you can stay in the middle of the track and take photos.

HUGH

Again sorry I won't be there to take photos tomorrow night....

I came by tonight to watch looks like a lot of fun but not to many adults running while I was there. Didn't know any one from STR so didn't get to meet anyone.

RMESA- The STR crew was down a few riders on Friday. I would say 70% of the regular "BMX" racers (i.e. the good one's) were not racing either. What I am trying to say is: show up again NEXT week. The turnout should be *MUCH* better! Notify us you will be attending and we will look *FOR YOU*.

BryGuy- You're cool Homie! He brought TWO bikes today. Wicked skills on both of them.

Donny- Finally dusted off his cruiser after 6 years! The only thing he lost were his "BMX" legs! He will be racing next week.... told ME so!

Maximum Respect to my Homie Hugh!
I was in complete shock when I saw him rolling up to the start line! The fact he was MOBBING an Intense Cruiser...WoOoOoOw! AND that he was fast!
Wish I could have ridden more this evening!
I owe you a Root Beer for just showing up!!!

P.S.- The "Dino's Favorite" Image Mfoga was referring to:
Hugh nearly ate it BIG TIME. If the picture was taken .075 seconds later, I would have had one hell of a photo to use against HUGH! There's always next week...

It was so good to see everyone! Sorry we were missing a few regulars, but a few new people came out, which is always great! I was surprised to see Hugh with his new cruiser, that was AWESOME! Good to see Donny there too!

Sorry I obviously missed out on meeting some new STR people, I hope to correct that mistake next time!

See you all there in 2 weeks!

Great Time last night, even if my family stayed on the other side of the fence this week.

Not sure who the 70% that was missing is, Seemed to me Lee was the only one not there last night (just because they weren't sitting by you doesn't mean they weren't there ) Actually - there were more STR members there than i've seen ever an
