When: Sunday May 4, 2008, Meet at 8:00am - Riding by 8:15am. Meet at the Castaic Sports Complex.
Directions: Exit at Parker Rd. off of I-5 north in Castaic. Turn right from offramp and right again at first stop sign. This goes back along the freeway about 1/3 mile to Castaic Sports Complex. We'll meet in the parking lot closest to the street right next to the entrance in front of the gymnasium. Just to give you a rough idea of drive time: This is about 25-30 minutes from West LA, 30-35 minutes from Pasadena, 45 minutes from Ventura and about one hour from Orange County (Disneyland). What/Where: Ride Tapia Canyon in Castaic. About 15+ miles all together if we do both (Chicken Run & Burn Victim) versions of the singletrack descent. Fireroad climb with singletrack descent(s). Who: Everyone is welcome. No rider will be left behind. My son Ted can accomodate faster paced extra-credit stuff is anyone is so inclined. We may do this Saturday morning too, so PM me if you want to go then. |

If I get my pedals, cassette installed, chain and shifters setup properly I'll be bringing my new beast. Going to bring it to work tomorrow because it's close to where i'll be taking it.
If not, it's hard tail for sure.

Hopefully I'll be able to make it (Burn Victim is hatefully addicting), we"ll see if I can get most of my stuff moved into my new apartment Saturday evening.
By the by, what is the bee situation? Should I be wearing long sleeves or other types of body armor? Or should I just put my head down and make a bee-line though that section? (^_^); |

![]() ![]() **** For those that don't know what he is referring to, a 'honey farmer' recently located some bee hives near the a section of the fire road climb and you usually have a few check you out as you ride past. Did a little 'recon' ride this morning with Rich (dub_xl). The bees were OK. I have just resorted to not wearing anything bright just in case and leaave a bit of juice in the tank just in case I need to get past them quickly. Honestly, the bees are just as thick in that spot toward the beginning of the fire road where there are some bushes and standing water on both sides of the road. They are also usually less active in the morning so I don't anticipate problems. Anyway, both sections of the descent are in great shape and the temps were pretty nice. It's a good thing for us to be riding by 8:15am. Looking forward to Sunday morning. |

I'm a cyclist

I am a big maybe now.
Probs with the knee are keeping me from riding. I tested it yesterday on a simple ride with the Mrs and again today ... Just to give you and idea of the hill that gave my knee probs yesterday, it is 35yrds long and only gains 40ft in elevation. As I said, an easy ride as that was the only hill ![]() I am going to reposition my cleats and see if that feels any better but I can not even ride flats right now even with 400mg of Celebrex. ![]()

I got my bike today and it's ready for it's shakedown voyage. I have a multi-biketool and some metal tire levers, patch kit and water pack, some junk food and chicken for lunch.
I'm using the clipless pedals but the verdict is out whether or not i'll do ok. I tried tonight a few times and it took a second or two to get them in, one then moving and put on the other and almost fell once trying to put the wrong foot down.... i have some platforms i'll bring along just in case. See you guys in the morning. hope you can make it DBD but if not.. there's always next time. Injury's suck. jake

![]() Tomorrow's weather should be great (high of 74 with a 10mph breeze) so no worries there. I have some Shimano DX 636's I could bring for you to try if you have spd type cleats. These are what I learned to ride clipless with. Mine aren't this thrashed though (I lifted the pic from ebay). |
